Tonight I was honored to be a part of the Barn Bash Fundraiser for Serenity Grove, a residential recovery house for women in the Athens, Ohio area. We men have had the John Clem House for the last decade or so… it’s about time the ladies got one too.
There was a dinner, an auction… and I got to play a little set:

The recovery community in the Athens, Ohio area was been such an important part of my life over the past two decades, it was nice in some small way to give back!
Great thing to help those in need. Life is so much better without being strung out from heroin & it is a great feeling to help other do the same. Thank you Jorma for helping others with their struggles ,you will help bring back happiness, joy, freedom & peace back into their lives.
Thank You,
Ray
Love Dylan and see him whenever possible.
I really would not like for this blog to go away.
Absolutely
@Ham n Eggs
Thanks for posting a nice comment about Wavy.
I can chat more with you, offline– because I have your contact info, unlike the troll patrol who post negative comments here, as if they haven’t already consulted with each other, offline.
Stick it — “Sam”.
Really, Jorma? Evidently, “a word to the wise is (not) sufficient.”
The trolling continues on, unabated.
So much for ” a word to the wise is sufficient.”
Add “Sam” to the list of the trolls’ followers.
He writes: “I bet Dylan was running from you know who!!! I bet he laughed so much too…”
Evidently, Jorma; “a word to the wise” is not “sufficient”.
Dylan wasn’t “running” from anyone — he just left the stage and went out of the Beacon.
Wavy and I laughed because it was a fun, free thing that Dylan did.
Unlike here on this comments section.
On the other hand I saw Sting from The Police last month for the 1st time last month up in Bethel Woods [Woodstock]. He was great. He played for 2 1/2 hours and 3 encores. It was a great show. I knew most of the songs – he moved around the stage. Bantered with the audience and everyone had a great time.
I can’t stand Bob Dylan. I saw him once about 10 years ago. He can’t sing anymore – he just slurs his lyrics. And he only played 2 songs that I knew,. He thinks his shit doesn’t stink. There were people who were booing at the end of the show. he only played for 45 minutes then just walked off the stage – no encore.
No cake Dead Head. In honor of AOSIII we’re having meat pie. You’re invited.
PS West Nile in your area Captain. Take precautions please.
Please read Jorma’s post from the other day Another Country Heard From

Love All Ways
Wavy’s book, Something Good for a Change has great story about Dylan. Of course I think all the tales in book are great.
@Sam
I bet Dylan was running from you know who!!!And I bet he laughed so much too..
@George Anthony
Last time we saw Bob Dylan at The Beacon, Wavy Gravy and I. Around 1990-ish.
Wavy wanted us to go upstairs for an after show visit, Bob said “O.K.”
I said ” Don’t be so sure that Bob will stick around for after show “.
During the last song of that night’s performance, Bob finished singing, his band kept playing — as Bob exited stage-right.
Walked off the stage and went out through the door at the left (audience) side.
Wavy asked “Where’s he going?” I replied ” He’s gone off into the night.”
We laughed so much!

Surf & Turf is usually Steak and a Lobster Tail. If they don’t serve lobster, it’s usually substituted by shrimp.
@eaglesteve
You don’t mean it. Where’s the cake?
Happy # 70 to Bobby Weir……..and many mo’
Congrats! “And I Like It” exposure; a Marty / Jorma composition. Jack’s Bass cuts through.
The aforementioned independent bookreview.com store in Huntington, Long Island is well recommended for next year’s Book Tour. Maybe also a return trip to Leonard Lopate 12 Noon show on WNYC-FM radio.
Otherwise, complements on Serenity Grove, Izze fundraiser, Golden Gate Park gig (all good stuff). We see Bob Dylan booked 5 nights at The Beacon during Thanksgiving week. Last time we saw Bob, Larry Campbell was the lead guitarist. We’re glad to have Port Chester and Paramount Huntington LI gigs in December. Be well.
hey man what is surf & turf ? @ the tabernacle
Just returned from a week in the Catskills. The colors were peaking. Oranges, yellows and reds of every hue were in evidence upstate. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons. Hope all you city folk get a chance to see it. Next week we go pumpkin picking on Long Island. Wish I lived in the country. Won’t be long til I see HT in Huntington LI.
also in recovery, and thank you for your words and actions. Very inspiring for me and prayers for all others, in recovery or not.
As a person in recovery, thank you
It’s good to know that a recovery house has been dedicated to women in that area.
Big problem there in Ohio that is killing people at war rates…Some times people don’t realize how fulfilling a solution getting back to the basics can be…Mind over matter…
Alls I can say is, “Onward!”
guitar player, sorry
Captain, it’s not just because you’re a guitar that you’re admired. Good work. What goes around comes around.
Call it “keeping it green”, “paying it forward”, or just “gratitude”, your a good man and any time we can help others, we are also helping ourselves.
Bless your big heart for doing this. My eldest son has been recovering from heroin addiction for several years, and his struggle continues daily. The affects of the “opioid crisis” has hit my family hard – a one/two punch – nearly putting my other son’s daughters in foster care from their mother’s addictions. This has to stop!
And, regarding your last post, you must be commended for your continued outreach to those of us who enjoy your music. This blog has come a long way from the days of the Tuna Times (I still have my copies!). thank you for all the Joy! m
And for what it’s worth Jorma, watching you & Jack on you’re path made it feel like it’s possible for me as well.
And it is.
Many thanks
