Last night the Wheels Of Soul Tour was at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia. Jack and I are hometown boys here in the D.C. area so for us it was a powerful homecoming!

I’ve played the Barns here at Wolf Trap, but never the Filene Center. This was a real treat!

The original Triumphs
Here’s Jack and myself along with Ronnie MacDonald… Ronnie played drums in the Triumphs, our band in high school in 1958/59. Here we are… same guys… a lot older.
Good times!
Yeah man, another good one. Tomorrow we are in Providence at the Providence Performing Art Center. I’ll miss being at the Fur Peace Ranch for pho today, but I have to work too.
We drove to Providence after show last night so we have a ‘day off’ today. I think I’ll find some seafood.
A friend of mine saw you last night in Rochester. She was in the second row and sent me a text photo of you jamming away. She said that Hot Tuna is incredible. Newbie.
All I can say is Row, Jimmy. Aint got half of what I thought I had. You guys gonna be in Charlotte a week from tomorrow, and it aint doin nothin but steamin and steepin here in the DEEP SOUTH (the King’s english is not spoken in these parts). Just have to see ’bout all this. Fare thee well……..
Enjoyed the show very much. The audience was thrilled to be there and listened with full attention. Fixed it.
Jack and Jorma caught the bus further…Cool though to see the pre-destiny band…
Jorma when you finally release my dream box set with an all electric Papa John show, a highly electric show from around 76 or 77, studio outtakes and unreleased tracks will the Triumphs single be on it? 😉
Little known fact…after The Triumphs disbanded, Mr MacDonald had a short stint as the fill in for one Fred J. Muggs on the NBC networks Dave Garroway helmed “Today Show”….his erstwhile bandmates shortly thereafter headed towards the golden west…
but that’s a tale for another time
Enjoyed the show very much. However, I was distressed that so many members of the Wolf Trap audience could not restrain themselves from chattering incessantly, and otherwise ignoring the music as if they were attending a baseball game they didn’t care about. One wonders why they bothered to buy tickets. Disrespectful. I’ve seen you play other, smaller venues in which the audience was thrilled to be there and listened with full attention.
Attended show last night
Tuna was good as usual but needed more!!!
I had lawn seat so far away in the back.
Started raining heavy as tuna started
Rained till end of show.
We were all soaked to the bone but in good spirits
Good show
I may be off the reservation here, but just had to throw down a little philosophy that for some reason I felt Jorma, and hopefully others, could appreciate. The prose, to me, is mesmerizing and the thought behind it is not only ecologically significant, but applies to other aspects of our planet and its inhabitants as well. If’n you need a little fodder to ruminate over whilst on the road, this might well fit a portion of the bill: http://www.uky.edu/OtherOrgs/AppalFor/Readings/leopold.pdf
If you’ve already read Leopold, then I just put it out there for refreshment.
The Triumphs!
For those of us not fortunate enough to have been there:
