A swell two nights… Vanessa, Izze, and Zach were all in town so we called our pal Tom Colicchio for a Thanksgiving recommendation and he came up with Temple Court in the historic Beekman Hotel.

As we walked over, we weren’t exactly in the shadow of the Freedom Tower… but there it was! Dinner at the Temple Court was absolutely outstanding. Our compliments to the Chef!

On the way back to our hotel we chanced to walk by the Nancy Whisky Pub.

Back in the 80’s Steve Sacher had a pad here and our band, There Goes The Neighborhood was born in that building. The 80’s were tough on everyone, but we did have a few laughs along the way! Then it was down to Jersey and Mt. Tabor.

Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/ Hot Tuna/Jorma have been doing NYC Thanksgiving for probably 50+ years. We always welcome them “home” It truly is one of the joyful blessings for me over the years and I do give thanks for it. Loving it since the early 70’s, and like Joe Strummer said (paraphrased) “At the worst a good rock and roll show will get you through work the next day”.
Maybe Jorma’s book tour will have a magic stop for you and he will play. I hope so
    Peace

Talk about on the outside looking in! I sit here in the hinterland joyful that you all got to experience another round of Tuna magic, and hopeful that I’ll luck out before too long and they’ll be playing at a house near me (near meaning a 500 mi. radius).

Great show last night to wrap up the City Winery run.
Especially liked hearing There’s a Bright Side Somewhere. Hadn’t heard that one before.
And to close with Embryonic Journey was sublime!

Thank you, Jorma and johno. I’m all for beauty sleep (though it does no good in my case).

There you go – Jorma answered your question.

  7. Comment made on November 29, 2017 by johno

    @John R.
Probably not. They would announce it – if there was an opening act. Plan on being there at showtime. The boyz need their beauty sleep.

  8. Comment made on November 29, 2017 by John R.

Is there an opening/supporting act for this leg of the tour? I’m going to Thursday’s show at the Wilbur and have to plan around Boston traffic. (Venue’s website doesn’t say.)

Loved the pic of Nancy Whiskey Pub! Lived right around the corner for while in the 80’s and had the pleasure of seeing TGTN there…what a place. Not quite City Winery or The Tabernacle, eh? Different times for sure. Yet here we are, with JK/HT as a musical constant through the years.

Getting psyched for the Electric shows.
Would love to hear Free Rein and/or Easy Now- don’t think I’ve ever heard either live.

Jorma, your photos of manhattan give a good sight into the places most happy for you in the past years and you are still here for enjoyment of those places now with your family. My American friends here at the restaurant are happy to see these photos and read your blog. They enjoy the hot tuna and jorma music I play on the sound system here. Not any person demands to know how many concerts you been to see? We all are the fans of your good music, we are the same good people. We accept each person for good human being and don’t harass.

I’m so sorry Johno for the passing of your mom.
That is perhaps the most difficult loss to endure.
When my sister passed in 2001, Jorma had started playing “What are they doing in Heaven Today”, and and at the Bottom Line, many tears were shed.
It’s amazing the healing effect music has, and how lucky we are to have Jorma & Jack to help us all along.
To welcome me in my new home this weekend, my girlfriend Amy played some live Tuna to make me feel at home.
    It was wonderful.
My sincere condolences to you & your family

Moms – The Lord’s most amazing creation.

Sorry to hear about your loss. My mom is 89 and in failing physical health. Fortunately, she still has her wits about her. How blessed I’ve been to share 64 Thanksgiving’s with her. She is a tremendous cook – and makes the best apple pie in the world. (LOL – somewhere about the middle of those 64 years, the boys started doing the dishes! Women’s Lib run amok!) Somehow, after raising 9 kids in the 60’s, she still has a great sense of humor. @johno

I just watched the video of White Rabbit sing along. Hilarious!
Having just moved again…this time to Florida…to be with the love of my life Amy (we were sweethearts as teenagers, a 76′ Tuna show to boot), I’m living a dream beyond my wildest.
Having said that, I can’t rightly say I’m jealous, but…6 Tuna shows in the NY area? Damn…vicariously watching from afar.
However, I’ll be seeing youz guys w/Tedeshi-Trucks in Jan, and Jorma solo here at my new home in the sunshine State.
My life has taken a turn toward love.
    Beyond my wildest dreams.
Without sobriety, none of this is possible.
    So grateful.
    Hot Tuna!
