Natalie’s Coal Fired Pizza is a more than delightful venue and a really good restaurant that is technically in Worthington, although it’s all Columbus to country boys like me. This is my second trip to Natalie’s, and I look forward to the next one. Now, not a day goes by that I don’t spend a lot of time maintaining my relationship with my guitars, but it’s not the same thing as gigging. I’ve been home for a while and as much as I love being home with the family, sometimes I feel as if my identity is beginning to suffer when I don’t get to play for an audience. This was just the remedy I needed! Plus, there were two shows on this night… both sold out!

The weather held until I was driving home… and then it was beyond torrential. Fortunately, in addition to my Daylighter headlights, I have a killer light bar!

Now I know that a light bar like this is not street legal, but it sure saved my bacon coming home on Rt. 33 at 0100 Wednesday morning. You just couldn’t see more that 20 feet in front of you with only the LED headlights.
Good times…
Yesterday I went up to Dan Earlewine’s shop in Athens, Ohio where a new set of engraved Waverly tuners were waiting for me. Susan from Stewart-MacDonald was shooting a video for Dan and Stewmack and we had a blast with it. My new tuners are mighty sexy too… guitar geekery… gotta love it.
Tomorrow is the beginning of another great weekend at the Fur Peace Ranch and Saturday night Peter Rowan and some of his pals will be holding forth at the Station.
Well, it’s a beautiful day today… I think I’ll go for a ride… without rainsuit!

Arthur, you don’t have to make excuses for keep coming back. You just have good taste. It’s fun, and if you are a picker, and I believe you are, its all the more fun.
I am surprised you made no comments on the culinary suggestions above. Being that you like good music, I presume you also eat. Just sayin’.
Yesterday I went out to hear a couple of respected musicians play some duos together – kind of a jazzy genre of music. I got bored of it after a while. These musicians were obviously masters of their instruments and the technique seemed to have been the point more than the music. Lots of noodling. Really good, tight noodling, but noodling nonetheless. Now, I love noodling, but there’s a difference between noodling with a destination and a beginning, middle, and end, and maybe some thematic elements. These improvisations did not have much of that. Today, I had to drive somewhere for a half hour, and my iPhone/car sound system chose to play a live track of Hot Tuna doing “Bread Line Blues.” There was a great bass solo by Jack on that track. And it had everything that was missing from yesterday’s music. Musical storytelling. Coherent musical sentences. Even though it was improvised, it was a composition in progress. It went far beyond being a finger exercise. One big reason why I keep coming back to these guys after all these years.
Real nice, Mark and Jorma remember the Alka Seltzer commercial, ” That’s a speecy, spicy meat-ta-ball”

I was cooking fathers day dinner for my racoon.
had to start braising the beef and veal shanks for the tomato sauce.
It was Steelers favorite. (My racoon is named after a certain drummer)
I was making ziti with gravy..
…roasted peppers..
…string beans with olive oil,and beautiful cutlets…
…that were cut just right…

fry up as an appetizer.

What’s the good word regarding Arts and Minds fest this year? I was only able to made it once, and it was a blast. But, I plan to come back.
Highly recommended for anyone in the area. Swing by the FPR for a cheese burger and a smoothie with the Kaukonen family.

We went to an Amish Farmers Market yesterday and bought some Lamb Sausage. Just had some for breakfast with eggs and some of their Blue Cheese. It was “The Bomb”. Donna and I shared some with our girls who after first making faces, tried something new and liked it. Now that’s what I call a great Fathers Day breakfast.

Happy Fathers Day to all the Dad’s out there. Thinking of my dad recently – WWII vet – was in Pearl Harbor. Great man – they don’t make them like him anymore. Sure miss him a lot. I feel like he hasn’t died but just moved on. My mother also – she died last August. I feel the same way about her. I’m convinced that you don’t die. But rather just pass on to another place – hopefully heaven.
jorma the denial of “carbs” are not a healthy options denial leads to cravings if you are trying to lose weight its better to practice moderation less thqn 1500 calories a day. protein can spike blood sugar also

Got the best early Fathers Day gifts I could want last night. Our youngest Foster Daughter age 12 who is somewhat challenging as prior to her coming here has had a difficult life at best came to me and shyly asked me if she could call me Dad, additionally I reconnected with my Step Daughter after 9 years. We had a terrific conversation, she stated that she misses me, loves me and will always consider me her Dad. The icing on the cake was that that she wants to see me and asked if I would take her to a Hot Tuna show. [Beacon?]. I guess all those years of listening to Tuna tapes in the car stuck after all. Needless to say it made my day. It just goes to show that it doesn’t take blood to be a good Father, you just have to choose to. Happy Fathers Day to all, remember to hug your kids.

Hi Jorma! Obviously I’ve seen you play many times. I was commenting to my friends at the second show on Tuesday how you probably wouldn’t repeat a song. 30 songs, two shows, 3 hours, all different songs. Priceless. The comments from folks leaving we’re ALL about how special it was to see and hear you. So… some people get it some don’t. I had to laugh at the “fan’s”” comment that Jack was talkative and you weren’t. Lol, I’ve never had a conversation with Jack in all my years coming to Fur Peace. Thanks for what you do Jorma! For me, your view of parenting is especially a role model for me. Thanks for that
