Ziessen Pesach and Happy Easter… to all!
Life has been uneventful which is just the way I like it. Back to the Jefferson Theater in Roanoke. Last time I was here as I recall it was on the Cami Tour with Robben Ford and Ruthie Foster.

Putting an old school to good use.

What a grand venue inside this old high school.

My little corner of the world.
We’ve been waiting for spring at home… a little ahead of our game here.

Nice

Buddy's... still here
Foto by Jorma Kaukonen
Last time I ate at Buddy’s was over ten years ago… probably closer to fifteen. My son was still really a kid. Vanessa and i took him to dinner here.
Meanwhile, back home at the Ranch Spring is finally showing its face.

Hope the spring flowers are still there when I get home in a week or so.
@wes
Wes-my brother and I attended the show as well. We were at both an early and late show at The Ram’s Head in like 2003. The guy sharing our table said the last time he had seen them was in 1973 with Papa John. When they came out he was like “Man they got old!!!”-what he didn’t think they or anyone would age in 30 years or what? Too funny…people say Harpo Marx, though he played a silent character, was a great talker and conversationalist and at times wouldn’t stop talking. That is the impression I get of Jack, a devil of a devil of a man…
I have a comment awaiting moderation in From Roanoke To Annapolis. Is there something wrong with it? It was my first ever comment.
Thanks,
Wes
Sorry Wes… i must have lost it. Mea Culpa.
Jorma
My wife Paula and I were at the show at the Ram’s Head. It was in reality a spur of the moment decision, as we had purchased tickets for Marc Broussard and were just perusing other acts that were performing at this venue. When I saw that Hot Tuna was performing there, it set off several thoughts in my mind, in random order, Wow, they are still performing, OMG, I remember listening to them with my older brother who was a real fan in the late 70’s and heard them live at his college, Alfred University, and Holy Crap, how old are the and how do they sound now? Thanks to the miracle of the internet, I could answer the last question, and introduce my wife to the Tuna. Always being the adventurous sort, Paula agreed that we needed to see more musical acts (which in 2018 would include such diverse artists as Tom Jones, Marc Broussard, and Southern Culture on the Skids) so we bought our tickets on a whim. Man alive were we not disappointed. Jorma, I can’t tell you how much rediscovering your music has meant to me, it’s akin to reacquainting yourself with a long lost friend that you haven’t seen in 40+ years. I’ve spent the better part of the week reading your blog, buying albums on iTunes, and just getting to know your passion for music, teaching, faith, family, friends and your fans. You are a remarkable man in a world that breeds unremarkable and bitter men. God bless you my friend.
P.S. Jack doesn’t say much does he, or is that only onstage?
Found it Wes
Thank you Jorma !! Spring is here .One love to all !!
I understand Jorma. Wish Jack had a blog so we could know more about him. Maybe he could write a book too. Jorma just love your blog. Can’t wait for the book.
Jorma I was thinking about Jack’s spiritual beliefs and I realize I know nothing about them. Can you enlighten us into what religion (if any) that he is. He has always been the mystery man among you two. Because of this blog and our interpersonal relationship i get a glimpse into your soul. And you are a beautiful soul. I also heard he has a place on an island off the coast of France. He continues to be Jack Casady – mystery man.
John it is not business to inquire into anyone’s personal beliefs.
Very glad that you, Jack and your crew are OK and able to Keep on Truckin…safe travels the rest of this leg of your tour…
Just proves the old adage : “You ain’t too cool for school”
First forsythia sighting here in Kansas City on Saturday! Hooray! Then, after a basically snowless winter, it snowed last night……. Oy.
Real good show at rams head last night J&J
As always thanks for the efforts and time
Though we don’t really know each other I always feel like I am with family at your shows; particularly intimate, small venue acoustic shows. Just excellent
Safe travels
Pressing On.
Psalm 118 – 13-14 – “I was pushed back and about to fall, but the Lord helped me.
The Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.” *** – ***
My strength and my song…Some believed that “the life of David [foreshadowed] the life of Christ; Bethlehem is the birthplace of both; the shepherd life of David points out Christ, the Good Shepherd///
The five stones chosen to slay Goliath are typical of the five wounds. *** Five Smooth Stones of: Faith, Obedience, Service, Prayer, and Holy Ghost
Without Passover, we may never have had Easter. Continued safe travels as you sing a bit from the two books. Hope you enjoyed the “Shepherd’s” Pie.
Always good to see Light of this world in the rotation,Quah on us.
Wondering if Jorma would ever consider Kantner/Balin covers from Crown or Volunteers ,I believe In Time ,would fit right in the acoustic show theme,If you feel.
The boys surprised us at Lockin,on the JA 50 with songs like Greasy Heart,Two heads and Eskimo blue day.
Just out of curiosity and I’m sure somebody out there is in the know, how’s Marty doing?
The show at Fur Peace with Marty and his wonderful accompaniment, was a musical treat.
Ride the music
It must be great to play the same venues over a long time.
It’s good to feel at home, wherever you are.
