Beautiful L2 Church in Denver
Foto by Phil Jacobs
We beat feet from Kansas City to Denver. It was spring there before we arrived but it quickly turned to winter. All that said, the Swallow Hill folks put me in the L2 Church which was a truly beautifully warm venue. Who cares about winter with a room like this.

Santa Fe morning
Foto by Jorma Kaukonen
The weather took a pause as we left Santa Fe in the morning. Our destination was Wichita Falls. We had to make the Texas drive in two days. New DOT regs prohibit the long drives we used to take for granted. That’s just the new normal. By the time we got to Wichita Falls, it was a full on ice storm!

Watch your step...

Up in the morning and another three hundred some miles to Tomball, Texas. We stopped in Bowie, Texas to get a bite.

The room at Main St.

I rarely get to Texas, sad to say. Perhaps this will change since I’m doing three gigs in the Lone Star State on this run. It was nice to spend an evening in this down home venue.

Back home the second wave of floods is coming. The last crest in Pomeroy was 50 feet above flood… this time they expect 58. We’re tough… we’ll get through it. In the almost 30 years I’ve lived here this has happened four times and we’re all still here as my Mom used to say.

On to San Antonio…
Cool. I noticed you said Pomeroy is in your zip code, I got to thinking. We have a creek that is ranked in the top 10 canoe trails in Texas that runs through our county. The Big Thicket Preserve is World Heritage site. Anyway, to traverse our zip code on it would take about the same amount of time if the water level wasn’t too low. No whitewater, just a beautiful meandering stream.
Hey Jorma, if you put a canoe in down there on your line with your neighbor and went to paddling, how long would it take to get to the Ohio river? Do it in a day?
If the water remained high long enough, I’d paddle the Shade to the Hocking and then to the Ohio… allowing for portages, tree limbs and the like… it would take at least a day.

@Ham n Eggs Thank ye for the kind sentiments.
Ok Jorma. I’m fired up for tomorrow night’s show in Punte Vedra!
I see it’s in an old church. Should sound pretty good I reckon.
I think on the beach too. It doesn’t get much better.
I’m grateful for you.

“Your also good for diverting conversations away from snarkyland and refocusing on better things…”
For example, when? Which comment(s) do you refer to?
The one where he joined in with his classy comment about “Do you like little boobs…?”
Or, after I called him out on it: his comment where he scolded me : “What don’t you understand?…”
After I called him out on that beaut: His reply: “I meant just ignore them and they will get tired…”.
Women (up until the day of his comments) had enough of that crap. It wasn’t much longer until the events of the (what I refer to as “The Women’s Autumn Rising”) gave women throughout the country (and subsequently other countries) a voice to speak out against
that kind of “put women down back into their place” garbage. Women aren’t just “ignor(ing) them” anymore.
What a bunch of self-serving bull.
Jorma, We wait anticipation for your biography august not too much time from today. Barbara suggest here that you write it and just a couple years after that, it is written and going to the press. America is a great country!
FYI
Tix on sale tomorrow for Acoustic Hot Tuna Sunday, October 14 @ The Egg in Albany NY.
Magnificent venue!

Yesterday afternoon, AXS TV (Directv cable channel) ran a 3 hr. presentation of the Love for Jerry show from a couple years ago, with Jorma, Bob Weir and a host of other bands. I must say, Jorma got some great sustain from his ‘bird guitar, and the only act that may have topped his presentation of Sugaree was the duet by Grace Potter and Bobby Weir. Very nice guitar work, Captain! m
Thoughts and prayers to all in flood and tornado zones
Peace
Love all ways
Your old FPR pal Toby Walker played in NJ tonight and we had a great jam. Many ranch alumni. We all say Hi!
Journey well Captain!.
Last time Jorma was in Lexington was about 4- years ago on a Sunday night at Natasha’s cafe,he was acoustic with Mitteroff, great show.Than later on Woodsongs radio hour ,no advertising or advance notice.Check out the radio show, normally quality performers ,Larry&Theresa ,etc.
If you come to Kentuck ,there’s a fall festival called “Court Days”,,it’s in September in Mt Sterling,Sizable percentages of attendees walk around with open shotguns, kind of a traditional thing to do.
Thrilled to be seeing Jorma at Poor David’s tonight! (Glad you made it back to Dallas!) I’m skipping the meet & greet to give someone who has never met Jorma a chance, as I’ll be at the FPR for the Double Dose opening weekend class again this year. I love spending a couple of days learning from Jack and Jorma, even though I’ll never be 1/100th as good as the Captain playing fingerstyle…
It’s kinda like da Bronx. We carry knives and set fires. I still can’t believe Jorm did all those Texas shows and didn’t do Ringo. Glad you had a great time
Peace

Your also good for diverting conversations away from snarkyland and refocusing on better things. ( at least to me )
@carey georgas
the denver and santa fe shows were awesome……see you(and jack) at nedfest!!!!
same deal with rivers upstate..nothing let loose yet.
Hi Jorma, I pre ordered your memoir book. Where was the cover photo taken?
I suspect it was taken around ’68 or ’69.
Any hoot, cant wait to read it!
your pal,
Greg
Wonder if Jorma caught the fantastic speed skating from the Winter Olympics…
Awesome you got to see the show, Carey.
Jorma, come back to Carson City!
Very cool news about the book, exciting! Jorma, “Prohibition Blues” is appearing in the set list more frequently lately. Can you please comment when you have a chance about how certain songs reappear after being gone for a while and the process you go through in determining which songs make the cut? Thanks, Phil
@rich l Check to make sure you had one.
LOL – in the old Westerns, didn’t they have to check the guns at saloon entrance? @Carey Georgas
@rich l Hell, no. I had one in my belt, one in a boot, and a switchblade in the other boot. Ever hear of Yosemite Sam? I damn near blew my big toe off after he finished the encore.
With an encore of “Genesis” you know he loved the place. Well hot damn – sounds like he liked Texas. Jorma, can’t wait for the book, the spring and autumn concert tours – sounds like a busy 2018. Can’t wait for Riverhead in March – Bethel Woods in September. Anybody know if the fall tour is Acoustic or Electric?
rock me like my back ain’t got no bone…
I just found out USA Volleyball Championships are going to be held in Austin over Memorial day – Lord have mercy.
Volleyball for four straight days and 6th street at night. Something has to give.
Carey, did you guys check your six shooters at the door?@carey georgas
I second that emotion on Texas. That said, I double damn guarantee that a good time was had by all last night. As you can see, the set list pretty much ran the gamut of Jorma’s repertoire. The full house responded with enthusiasm and, at times what I would call an almost reverent awe. The man was on, no denying that. I won’t call you baby, I’ll just say, “Come Back Jorma”!
I have a feeling you’re gonna be signing alot of your books Jorma!

But one source..perhaps Fur Peace will also offer?
Where is the information to be found on ordering the book?
Jorma, I pre-ordered your book but would like to get you to sign it, what are the possibilities there. Most authors do book tours at bookstores to promote and sign books for their fans, will you offer an opportunity like this? Sincerely, a VERY long time fan!
