Winter's Eve at the Ranch

It was a great trip, but it’s great to me home… wintry mix and all!
The other supermarket is Jerry’s with the parrots, some of whom are personal friends of mine and save some magic stuff for when we are alone…One time the Blue and Gold Macaw did a rapid fire of 10 “Hellos” each with a distinctly different voice including one with a British accent…Jefferson Starship is playing in Bonita Springs on the 24th and their general admission tickets are very close to the stage…Let me know if you get out this way Johno…
I think there’s another big grocery store when you first get onto Sanibel. I think it’s on Perriwinkle. I miss the shelling on Sanibel = one of the best spots in the world.
I love Bailey’s – one of the only grocery stores on the Island. I haven’t been to Sanibel in 2 years. I go to Estero Island – Fort Myers Beach in one of high rise buildings at the southern end of Estero. Coming down in two weeks – can’t wait.
@Leslie
What amazes me is that I don’t think when I started going to Hot Tuna and Grateful Dead shows, among others,40 plus years ago, that it ever occurred to me, that when I was older than my parents, I’d still be enjoying the experience as much as I am! I am so grateful that Jorma and Jack continue to share their music and it’s become a tradition to go with old friends. Jammin in the sand sounds great. Hope to get there myself. Can you say or give a clue as to what the “s” in the sand stood for?
Leslie:
Thanks for the tip…Thanks to you I just got 2nd row center Melbourne…
They moved the Doc Ford’s you went to to a new building in town by Bailey’s General Store…There was a protest over building there but they won…Sanibel has some of the highest percentage of preserved land of any Florida barrier island and because of it I see otters in the pond from our back porch and an occasional Bald Eagle…Bob cats too…
Warm in the sun but still cool from the marine temperature at night…
I’m not one to quibble.@Susan
@carey georgas Lol. . Not sure if it’s additional astronomical assistance or mathematical assistance that we need, since it was 1866 since the last one, not 1860 or 1861.
Glad to be of astronomical assistance.@Susan
@carey georgas
My husband and 2 children saw the moon last night around 6pm and said it was gorgeous. One wanted us to wake him this morning before sunrise (this was being reported as the best viewing time for the east coast) to see what he said “hasn’t happened in 157 years”, but alas, it was cloudy. Thx for the initial notice!
Wonder why my comments don’t show up?
Well
Anyway … Jam in the Sand in Jamaica was EPIC. So glad I finally attended and probably will forever more! Hoping Hot Tuna will also. I’ve seen tons of Hot Tuna gigs over the last 40 years but this was something else. The intimacy of it all was everything! And Jorma and Jack, I discovered on this trip, are two really nice guys!
Will def be going to Melbourne to catch a Jorma show.
Much love, Jorma

Have you ever gone to Doc Ford’s Grill? One of my haunts on Sanibel.
@Brian Doyle

Happy #76 to Marty Balin
I hate to wish my time away, but this would be a spring (vernal equinox) that I am looking forward to. Pollen and all…bring it on.
Thanks for the info. Sorry to hear about your dog.
Living in the country has it’s challenges. Last summer me and a black bear decided to take a dip in the stream at the same time. Me and this 200 lb bear were 10 feet apart. I took off real fast and didn’t look back.
@mark k
Dog got sprayed by a skunk last night: What’s that smell like skunk o baby? FYI: A rubdown with Hydrogen Peroxide, Baking Soda and Liquid Soap combo did the trick
Missed Jorma at Boca because no one told me there was a second stage…
We’ve had frigid weather down here on Sanibel but warm weather in the 70’s is lining up for his visit…
@Greg martelli Resorts are bound by insurance contracts.
In the real world of responsibility, somebody has to be liable. And — that should not be Jorma.
People: Send your kids to Camp Winnarainbow, where Wavy and his wife Ja have the experience and staff to be able to provide the best experience for them.
Rock on, Greg.
the “real world” is everywhere.
Sorry, that’d be Wednesday, the 31st for the moon show.
Don’t forget, Monday night will be a blue super blood moon, the first one since 1866. If it’s not cloudy where ever you are, it should be an interesting phenomenon to observe.
The music on the beach is great,we attended a total of 6- Feat fests , which morphed into Ramble on the island.
Hot tuna& than Jorma performed at 2.
The afternoon sound checks on beach were ethereal.
The beaches are children friendly, but the events are”M” for mature.
It’s not the Dead parking lot scene of the late eighties and 90’s, or the Hog Farm commune.
There are clowns, but their not Hugh Romney, best place for adults.
Greg
The big chill in Ky has wained, it’s global warming now.
Lookout-I Just saw Al Gores private jet fly over.
Got to revolution!
Summer
None of has had anything to say about the resort’s policy of no children for these events..
Jorma
And sorry too about the water pipes. Johno. I like the positive, glass half full take on the weather, but I’m still seeing patches of ice snd (very dirty) snow on the sides of roads… from snow we had 3 weeks ago…it’s cold! Looking forward to spring and dummer.
Lol
Hi Jorma- A run of the mill fan like me would have absolutely no influence on a no kids policy. Too, the resort itself may be an adults only resort. But if you, Vanessa snd Izze have any say in it, please do advocate for kids to be allowed! Maybe it can be a condition of your contract next year,

Jorma, it’s gonna be in the 50’s this weekend in SE Ohio and here on Long Island. A nice January thaw. Sorry to hear about your broken pipes.
When I was a kid it seemed that winters were colder with more snow. Global warming has tamed down winters in general. For instance, last winter was the warmest on record. But I think the South is having a colder than normal winter this year and us up north are having a milder than normal winter. It’s almost February and the NOAA predicts a warmer then normal February. I can’t wait til I see Jorma on March 9th. Yahoo!
@carey georgas
Maybe it’s a relative thing, but down here it’s snowed twice, gotten into the teens three times, been in the 20’s and 30’s more often than not. Some winters we barely get a frost, and it hasn’t snowed twice in a year since I was a kid. I know my bones are getting older, and a southern boy don’t know a lot about winter time, but cold is cold!@johno
I don’t think this winter is that bad here on Long Island. We so far had only one snowstorm and we had one cold spell so far. I’m heading to Florida in two weeks. And February is a short month. Then it’s March and Spring. And I get to see Jorma in Riverhead in early March. Then trout season opens April.
Indeed. Can’t wait to get a break from it myself to “play in the sand “ in February. Was looking at the Jamaica packages as a possibility next year, but only saw rates for adults. Can anyone tell me if children are welcome? I.T looks like a great time!
Sad to say… no kids allowed. Izze and Vanessa stayed home… and had to fix the broken water line. One of the worst winters in Southeast Ohio in years!
Welcome home. Ain’t been nothin’ but cold around here. Even the pics from Jamaica didn’t look warm. Winter’s got teeth this year.
