So Sunday it was in the low thirties, but at least it wasn’t raining so Jeff and I saddled up and headed out in the direction of Lake Hope.

It was chilly and overcast, but I got a hundred miles in before I got home. Gotta love these roads! Last night was open house night on Main St. down in Pomeroy so Nessa and I drove down to the river to check out the action. Our first stop Was at Bobby Carr’s Hartwell House.

Yeah I know, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet but just like everywhere here in the States, Christmas is making it’s presence felt in Meigs County.

Walking back to the Jeep I had to get a shot of our County Courthouse.

Yep, it’s in Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. Good times!

The leaves were falling as it poured rain last night and the culverts by our long driveway were filled to overflowing. This morning Nessa and I saddled up the Mule and with tools in hand, attacked the plugged mess.

Fed gov’t doesn’t decide what’s appropriate speech, the Constitution does. Like I said, if people didn’t listen to the programming, they’d go out of business. News talk radio and news talk TV is entertainment, not journalism. Big difference. Sad commentary on the market (that’s us) when such talk is in high enough demand to command those kind of dollars.

It has nothing to do with the Fed Gov determining what is acceptable. Using talk radio to disseminate misinformation for political gain is downright dangerous to democracy as we know it. Facts are facts, there are no “alternate facts”.

That is not what Kevin said at all.

Lets call the Federal Government in then to determine what is acceptable speech……….@Kevin

There is a big difference between freedom of speech and flat out lying to the American people to further one’s political agenda, despite obvious facts to the contrary. That is the problem with much of what passes for talk radio these days.

@AndyK If your goal was to put severe constraints on freedom of speech it is helpful to find a scapegoat……Talk Radio apparently fits the bill…..not all talk radio of course….just that speech which you do not agree with and have been conditioned to fear .Plenty of opportunity for those whose opinions differ from Limbaugh…….Air America comes to mind……Alan Colmes is another and Al Gores chicken little the sky is falling bit…..Problem is they don’t offer anything of interest for their potential market…….I can tune in to any of the nightly newscasts and hear the same schtick that Air America was offering up. The tactic of a Hegelian Dialectic is to accomplish your goal….constrain free speech for example….by creating an environment where the people demand from the government that end result which you want…… It really is amazing when you think about it……..American citizens begging their government to take away a right that was given to us as a protection against that same government.Even more remarkable is that many who are pushing for this are members of the so called free speech generation…..Or former members.

While Paul would probably be cranking up the Starship, on this Veterans Day we volunteered to help with the Florida recounts. Volunteers has been in heavy rotation at the house (of course still trying to play Good Shepard from camp). I take solace in the Captains wisdom of “There will always be another election”

I still have those tickets for the Beacon. I’m gonna put them on Craigslist tomorrow. They’ll be gone within an hour. Again they are 6th row center section. All I’m asking is the price on the ticket-$99 each. I got 3rd row seats last month.

Conversely I was busted st Watkins glen ( Grand Prix), 1971
The courtroom was FULL of jokers and Bozos the following morning,I got a $120 fine and at 9:45 am and went and got a Bloody Mary.
Additionally I credit the schism in today’s society to my generation( I believe I can hear the shrill sirens scream now), I believe us baby boomers disparaged the US and assigned misguided blame on US for participation in WWII,it’s about the time that we all renounced religious institutions as well with our Judeo /Christian guilt ( somewhat of a unique occidental mindset), it was and is derived from a fundamental lack of a real understanding of history. When you denigrate every institution, revise history(Sounds like Leninism and Stalinism to me),to me ,and than place our misguided faith “In the trajectory of history), you end up with the divisthat we have.
For the record,I advocate for the national legalization of marijuana today.
I believe the problems started when we dropped both geography and history as subjects in school and replaced the two with Social Studies. At that point our perspective was distorted by our own skewed view of reality instead of accepting the reality for what it is.
    I think I’ll que up St.Stephen
    Greg
Instead we were egotistical and narcissistic, and believe our view of history ( formulated without a real grasp),

Hopefully some genuine prison reform can occur in this land and all around the world.

The way I got it figured, peace and harmony don’t sell ads in this society. Get someone on there with their face red and veins bulging, hollering and insulting those who disagree, and they’ll pack the house. Rush Limbaugh would have never taken off if people hadn’t listened to him. All media is guilty. Maybe not all outlets stoke the fire, but none of them really does much to try and put it out. Since news ceased to be a loss leader and became a profit center, journalism has taken a back seat to entertainment. Oh well.

I was busted selling a girl an ounce of weed in 1972 in Reno, Nevada. It was a setup. Went to jail and was looking at life in prison for dealing. Got off because the girl entrapped me. I would still be in jail if my father hadn’t sent out a big shot attorney from NYC.

Yes, we’ve become so polarized as a nation. Really sad. I trace the roots to the talk radio boom a couple of decades ago. That being said, instead of encouraging people to participate in the democratic process, it is increasingly difficult to vote. For example, fewer polling places, less early voting, purging voter rolls and banning those formerly incarcerated from voting for life. Amazing fact, 1 of 3 black voters in Kentucky cannot vote – ever! The state has lifetime bans for former felons even though they’ve paid their ‘debt to society’.
So if you were caught with a bag of pot in the 70’s……

Peoples is crazy, I can tell you that. I worked the election poll Tuesday and a man came in who was registered in another county but lived in the precinct I worked. An error had occurred somewhere up the line with his registration, but the rule says a voter can only vote in the precinct in which they are registered. When I tried to explain, his first retort was “Probably them damn democrats”. I replied, “Sir, they don’t operate like that.” Then I got to thinking. In Texas, the Secretary of State is the chief election authority. The County Judge is the authority for the local entity. The County Clerk is responsible for holding the election, and the County Tax Assessor/Collector also serves as voter registrar. The election judge is the authority on the precinct level. Every one of these people were elected on the republican ticket, but the first thing the guy does is blame democrats. Logic has no room inside peoples’ bubbles. That’s got to change or we’re in for very different times (at least my children and grandchildren, for sure!).

That short clip made me smile. I met some guys today who seem to know a thing or two about vintage pick-up trucks (and hot-rods, Harleys). I’m going to show them a photo of that old cab.
