Last weekend Magic Dick from the old Jay Geils band came to Darwin and played a more than awesome show with Shun Ng, a young guitarist from Singapore. They were indeed really something… we sure get some good guys to come to the Ranch! Jack and I opened the show with a little acoustic set:

The classes were great and Justin Guip flew in to play the show and then ride up to NYC for our Beacon show.
HEADS UP ALL! This year because of Thanksgiving Beacon doors are at seven… show starts at seven thirty. There is also new entry protocol and you may be wanded. A word to the wise is sufficient as my mother would say.
Anyway, Elecrric Tuna at the Fur Peace Station.

My Burgers 8-track was a proud possession
@tom
Highway song is one of my all time favorites – “Raining somewhere down the road, now that don’t mean a thing…”
@Rich L
Play the Burgers album. Very “flavorful”
Great, great show last night @ The Beacon!
So nice to hear Walkin’ Blues again. I think the last time was way back at Jorma’s 70th Birthday Celebration.
Hopefully, it will be added to the rotation going forward.
Many thanks for braving the traffic and making a spirited start to the holidays.
Happy thanksgiving ! What a night at the Beacon ! Hot Tuna were on fire . Thank you Jorma Jack Justin & Steve . Heading to Cancun tomorrow got my double dose for sure last night . Peace and love to all ! Enjoy your thanksgiving.
Can’t wait for the Dec show at the Old Town School of Folk Music. if you like Shepherds Pie, Graftons right next door is excellent.
i’m trying to bring this friend who has never heard Hot Tuna before. So, Tuna nation, what one song would you tell someone to listen too, from Hot Tuna’s extensive catalog, to get a flavor of the band?
Psalm 136:1 “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.” Each day is a gift!

Just on our way home from the Beacon where Hot Tuna and Steve Kimock were on fire tonight! Thanks for coming back every year….it’s one of the things us New York fans are all grateful for!

My son & I will be stopping around the corner a brew before heading in.We went last year to the show in Asbury Park.
Andrew has had to listen to me playing Tuna & others as he grew up. When he went off to college he actually took a course titled the history of Rock & Roll.

I can’t believe it’s two days til Thanksgiving. Which means we have Hot Tuna as our 1st course this year. Time really flies when your having fun. Jorma this has been some year with the guitar ranch, the new book, concert tours. You are the hardest working guy in show biz. Can’t wait til tomorrow and the Beacon. I’ve got 3rd row center.
See you at the Beacon tomorrow. The tradition continues!
Great show with Magic Dick and Shun Ng at the Ranch. Jorma was that a five or a six string guitar that Shun was playing ?How was he able to get that sound out of it ? The way he was able to play bass and lead at the same time was simply amazing.
Shun’s guitar was a six string he made himself. He had an octave divider on the bottom two strings. 🙂
I’ve never been a fan of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, but Shun Ng does a solo version of it, guitar and voice only, that is extraordinary. Check it out on YouTube.
Such a night! The music was fantastic, the people were friendly, and lemme tell ya, those were the most comfortable auditorium chairs my ass has ever met! Three hours of music and I squirmed in my seat not once.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for a most memorable evening!
Yes indeed…the final two shows were outstanding…actually like all the shows at FPR! Magic Dick and Shun were just plain awesome last week. Ran into them the night before the show at the hotel and they were as nice and genuine as can be…super musicians and super people. Can’t wait to see and hear more from Shun going forward. Chatted with Magic Dick about some of those memorable J. Geils Band shows in Cleveland back in the 70’s and early 80’s. And, what can I say about HT…your acoustic opening set last weekend and electric sets on Saturday were spot on terrific. You guys never cease to amaze. Have safe travels and a great show up in NY. Happy Thanksgiving to you all and thank you for a lifetime of great music and for the great place known as FPR. Keep on truckin’
Saw Shun Ng solo earlier this year. Guy is unbelievable.
