So… it seems like only a couple of weeks ago Nessa and Izze and I were driving down the Blue Ridge Parkway on our way to Blowing Rock and the Westglow Resort… and indeed it was. Myron and I drove out of Southeast Ohio to meet up with Jack and Justin and Phil in Roanoke for the nest leg of our journey which would find us in Floyd, Virginia and Floyd Fest.

Early Friday morning we all drove down that beautiful parkway for a podcast… and the assembly of our gear for the electric gig.

After the set and the Q and A we headed back up the Parkway to Roanoke. The evening could not have been more beautiful as the day waned. I’m used to seeing deer. We’re surrounded by them here in Darwin, but to see a bear cross the road… now we’re talking. Sorry I missed a picture, but I was driving. In any case…

You jusr can't beat this drive.

I grew up in the D.C. area and one of the things Mom and Dad liked to do was take the family for a drive down the parkway. Many things have changed since then, but the Parkway has resisted this change.

Good times… and onward!

Captain: I’d sure like to hear Song from the Stainless Cymbal this electric tour. I’ll be in Port Chester, Stroudsburg and probably Westbury. Thanks

@Joe K Thanks for the AC Press article link…good read, despite little mention of JA. Enjoy Asbury, it has come a long way from when I used to catch HT at the Stone Pony in the 80’s and 90’s.

    Hi Jorma,

My apologies for writing here, but I did not see another place I could find on your blog to mention this, so here it is.
I am an archivist for the National Archives and Records Administration in College Park, Maryland, and I am process Labor Attache records from from the Department of Labor during the early 1950s. The series I am working on right now are Correspondence, Reports, Personnel Performance, and Backstopping Files for that period and I’ve stumbled across your father’s files. My grandmother was Finish, born in the U.P. of Michigan like your dad and it stuck out to me. So looking him up online I came across you and I thought you’d might be interested in knowing that.
I expect to be finished with these records next week sometime and then they’ll be available for the public to view. So if you ever work your way towards Washington D.C. area and the College Park facility, you can view them too if you like.
    FYI

More importantly it’s also Hot Tuna’s 50th Anniversary. Congratulations to Jorma and Jack. Just love the logo on your touring page. Thank you for 50 years of incredible music. You guys are the most amazing band on the planet.

Woodstock 50 has finally been cancelled. Good idea but they should have held it at the original site. At least Bethel Woods is having a commemorative weekend August 16-18 with Ringo Starr, Edgar Winter Band, Santana and The Doobie Brothers. And the show I’m going to go see John Fogarty and the Tedeschi Trucks Band. The original Woodstock was a once in a lifetime event.

50 years ago today….Atlantic City Pop Festival…a largely forgotten 3-day festival at the AC Race Track, the 2nd day of which JA played. Any recollections Jorma? (and today would have been Garcia’s 77th…)

    Hi, Jorma

I liked your caption, “Good morning people …” Just wanted you to know I got the reference. 🙂

@Tom NY I don’t know what the problem was in traffic court. All I said to the Judge was the sign said Fine For Parking and he told me the fine was 99

Third row stage right,John. I’ll probably have on a black t-shirt of sorts and jeans, ‘cause that’s what I usually wear, and there’ll be a good looking woman with me. That’d be my wife. Be good to make your acquaintance.

Hey Mark…. Near that same spot, you know, where you couldn’t see the bear, well it turns out I got a flat there, where there was a …….FORK in the road.

I will look for you at the Memphis show Carey. We will be at the Caverns also. Very much looking forward to the ride down there as I have not been in the Smokey Mountains in a very long time . Straight shot down the Shenandoah Valley to Roanoke then over to Pelham… >Memphis to Gatlinburg .href=”#comment-40030″>@carey georgas

Hey John B, if my memory serves, I saw Jack sporting a white leather jacket during the electric Tuna 1983 tour. I was at the Rainbow th. in Denver. He walked right through the crowd to the stage. Very cool.

I was following directions on my phone the other day and was told “Bear Left At The Next Light”. But I couldn’t see him anywhere.

One of the few road trips left that the only change seen from decade to decade is that of the seasons. We might take a little time on a sister parkway, the Natchez Trace, when wending our way to Memphis next month. Can’t hardly wait!

Good move, keeping your hands on the wheel instead of taking a pic of the bear. There are plenty of bears, but just one Captain

    Hi Jorma,
The coolest thing that gets my attention is there is only one song repeated in these 3 sets, and I know the arrangements differ drastically between those two versions.
I’m starting to work on Surfase Tension. Haven’t got the 2nd or 3rd chord changes quite right. Carry on friend. You & Jack are a treasure.
    Interesting, challenging stuff.
    Floyd Va looks beautiful.

Is Jack wearing a leather jacket ?
