Twilight at the Ranch

Twilight at the Ranch

The night sky is moving subtly from Fall into Winter even though Winter per se is over a month away. Today is rainy and chilly here in Southeast Ohio. At least it’s no freezing. In any case, last weekend our dear friend Dave Revels brought his Shadows Of The Sixties troupe to our very own Fur Peace Station.

As the owners and operators of a small business, Vanessa and I face all he realities of business owners in our position. When everything goes as planned, it’s gravy. When our business needs a little transfusion, it’s up to us to give it. On weekends like this, surrounded by the joy of the music and what it brings to us and those who choose to spend time with us here at the Ranch… it is more than worth whatever we have to do to make it happen. Our amazing staff, our students, our audiences and the artists who come to teach and/or play concerts… I love you all!

    Hello Mr. Kaukonan.

I want to thank you for all of the performances I have seen you in New York.
I have seen you perform more than anyone else.
I now live in Sarasota Florida and have never seen any appearances in my area.
    Oh well!

Best wishes to you and Jack!

Thanks for what you and Vanessa do. John and the staff as well. I caught both
Tuna shows last week. Always a hoot to see you play in Columbus. The folks really love it.
It’s like a road game so to speak since I’ve been coming to the Ranch for so many years,
But man does it just make me feel so good to see how much love you get from “away”
    Gig fans. What a Blessing!!

Interesting, the new Fiirebird Custom looks exactly like the celebrity. Difference being the tuners.

You Jack and Justin are awesome!
Can’t wait for the Florida shows!

    Jorma,

Currently watching the live feed from the Ranch. Love the blackbird. Is that the new Firebird custom, or a special order? Noticed the tuners are the old style banjo, while the guitar advertised on the Gibson site has the traditional tuners.

Hey Frank… that’s a 1991 Firebird Celebrity I go from my friend Art. What’s not to like about a ‘bird?

Hello Jorma, Wanted to ask you to please come to Annapolis, MD and play for all of us at the Ram’s Head. We went in and asked why Hot Tuna wasn’t playing this year and they told me they hadn’t heard from your booking folks.Hope to see you play in Annapolis or DC 2020! We all miss you!

Any ideas as to how close to Texas you might swing in ‘20? It’s a year ago I was up there for the show, and it’s got me daydreaming as I think back on the good time had.

Those lights at ground level that you guys installed are very helpful in keeping an old duffer like myself upright when leaving the show………

    Hey, Jorma!
“Just because” from your album Blue Country Heart was on the radio today here in Norway after a brief interview with the person that requested the song where he presented some information about you and your music. It warms to hear your songs now and then on local radio up here in cold Norway!

    Have a great day!

Looks like some serious stylin’ going on up on that stage! No doubt the groove was in the house. The FPR pantheon is wide and deep indeed! Did the house jump up on its piers?

Sorry I had to miss the Shadows of the 60’s show this year. If it was half as good as last year’s show (and I know it was ‘cause I caught the live-stream) then it was outstanding! Looking forward to this weekend’s season closer with HT at FPR! This will be my 11th straight season ending show and I can hardly wait. It is always an epic jam and I feel blessed to be a part of it…the magic of music. However, somewhat saddened that my old buddy Gary, who turned me on to HT in Athens as freshman at OU back in 1980 can’t make it. He was looking forward to his 1st visit to FPR with me this weekend but his brother passed unexpectedly last Friday so he won’t be able to join us. His brother was a good man! Blessings to the family. And, my old buddy John R. who also has attended each of the past 11 season-ending shows was thrown a curveball work-wise at the 11th hour and can’t make it. I’ll carry on the spirit for both of my good friends. And, after HT at FPR this weekend, I am going to close out my 2019 concerts with Zimmy (aka Bob Dylan) in Richmond area next week and then also in Richmond with Bill Kirchen’s Christmas Show in mid-December followed by Samantha Fish the following night. Nothing like live music to inspire and lift our souls.

Looks like you are having a grand time at the Ranch..Enjoy!! As much as we know you love to share the music I am happy to say I look forward to coming there for the first time and hear the music. Me and a buddy were lucky enough to get tickets for the 2020 HT Electric show next Nov…Cant wait good to have something to look forward to.. And thank you for the crazy inexpensive price of the tickets..Shows how you and the Ranch care about the music and people…
