The Memorial was right outside my window when I got to my room. My son and his mom used to live not far from here when the plane hit. I will never forget that day.
On a brighter note, D.C. is hometown to Jack and myself. To play a hometown room of this caliber with friends and family in the audience… is more than off the charts!

This was our last night with Dave Mason and the guys so bid them a fond farewell with love and respect for a good time. Hope to see them down the road.
Now we’re down here in Carrboro, North Carolina for our first show with Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley. I guarantee good times will be had!

@Sandy Hi Sandy, I’ll try to help. Jorma talked about this tune at a concert a few years back. This was a buddy of his that overdosed back in the day. Its a powerful tune and one that I like to hear in concert but I didnt know what it was about till Jorma talked about it. I think it is mentioned as well in the autobiography, Been So Long. I’m eyeing that devil Dorian that is directly due east of me and hitting Abaco Island Bahamas as probably the worst hurricane to ever hit the Bahamas…Good thing it is going to turn north because if it came here it would be life-threatening…The cyclone is one of the worst to ever threaten Florida and is now a super category 5…Hurricane Hunters just measured a 203mph sustained windspeed…

Billy Dean Andrus from San Jose was a brilliant young guitarist. He died of a drug overdose in the very early 70’s. He was the first of my close friends to die thusly. Every time i play the song, I think of him and what could have been, but never will be. RIP Billy…
Hangin’ in Clarksdale tonight. Memphis bound tomorrow after lunch at Ground Zero. Can’t hardly wait for the show tomorrow.
The caverns show was very cool , both venue and ambient temp were .
No backstage so artists had to enter from mouth of cavern through the audience .
The cavern itself is a very large room, with sedimentary limestone roof at about 30’-0”
The space you occupy is actually an eroded mud seam .
The music tonality was enhanced by a probable 85% moisture .
Crowd lively for troglodytes.

All enjoyed the show, Jack took lots of photos, it was wild.
There were occasional water drops from modest stalactites behind stage, looked like drops of quicksilver in stage lights.

Had to get my car serviced at the dealership in Houston today. With an hour and a half to kill, I took a little stroll around the neighborhood and stumbled unexpectedly on Cactus Music, Houston’s oldest independent record store. I’m doing a deep dive into Texas blues history, and what should I find but some Blind Lemon Jefferson, some Lightnin’ Hopkins stuff I didn’t already have, plus a T-Bone Walker recording of songs done between ‘51 and ‘54, my year of birth, coincidently. With Freddie King, Billy Gibbons, and SRV, I only need some Gary Clark Jr. to have a compendium of over a century’s worth of Texas’ most famous blues artist. I know we can get most everything on the web these days, but it just ain’t the same to this old greybeard.

Wow…incredible night at FPR last Saturday with George Porter Jr. Trio and guitar wizard Steve Kimock! Words cannot fully describe the music magic at FPR shows. Thank you Jorma, Vanessa, Hurl, Kelly, Smiles and the entire staff…y’all rock!
Sad news about Neal Casal. He was such a great guitarist..his playing was so uplifting, joyous, and full of spirit! Weir said he’d remember him for the smile he left. I’ll remember for the many times I saw and heard him play great music with CRB and Hard Working Americans and that smile…most recently several weeks ago in Richmond, VA with the Chris Robinson Brotherhood with Pete Sears sitting in on keys. Rest In Peace.
BBQ is a point of pride in many locales ,St .Louis ,North Calinky ,
Yes even Texas,however when I think of barbacue ,I think of Memphis.I can’t guarantee it but you might even find a turduken.My oldest son brought one up from New Arcadia and we smoked it among other things on the 4 th.

Man, just go anywhere. Seriously. We have never had less than awesome BBQ in Memphis. Jim Neeley’s Interstate is good, Corky’s is famous, but if someone can’t find good BBQ in Memphis they probably can’t find their own head using both hands.
Dug up a place just surfing around. Check out Payne’s Bar-B-Que. I think I am gonna go try it.
Imma do some ‘que recon if I have the time. Find me a little mom and pop or maybe a Missionary Baptist church sellin’ it for their building fund or whatnot. Backstreet bar-b-que, I’m talkin’ about. I’ll bet there’s some to be had. Tater salad, cole slaw, and a big ‘ol piece of chocolate pie. If Memphis can outdo east Texas in that department, hats off.
And honor and privilege to see these two masters working their craft in Carrboro last night. Thanks Jorma and Jack, the show was great.

Saw the Warner Theater show. The boys just look strong as ever—outstanding show. Jack’s bass work on Good Shepherd was without parallel. Brought a friend who hadn’t seen electric HT — the look on his face was that of a kid brought to the candy store for the first time. Xanadu . . . .

Carrboro was the home town to Elizabeth Cotton. When I saw Bill Frisell at the Arts Center, he played Freight Train in her honor – just a suggestion. Sold out on a school night in Carrboro is a good sign…can’t wait.
