While the big Woodstock 50 concert never got off the ground, Bethel Woods was the place to be this summer. The concert there, on the site of the original Woodstock, with John Fogarty was the closest thing to the real deal as I could get. Really psychedelic. Tedeschi Trucks Band were there also. What a great show that was. Too bad Hot Tuna didn’t get to play Woodstock 50 at Watkins Glen in front of 100.000 people. What a trip that would’ve been. They just finished a great summer tour – got to see them at Westbury. What another great show. They gotta be one of the hardest working rock bands around. Keep on Truckin’ boyz.

Hey Jorma, I see the band there standing in front of the Moore…First clue was you w the hand on the hip. Then I added in Justin and there is Jack too. Way to sneak it in….more to be revealed.
I must say, the melody, key, and finger picking pattern of Genesis is quite sweet. Once again, I saw an uptick in interest and cash flow when I played it at a farmers market yesterday. No royalties owed, right? Just sayin’.
Solomon wrote, there is nothing new under the sun, but the intro lick to Trial By Fire is quite unique. That tune always turns a few heads as well.
“Take my advice, leave them married women be. They man will catch you, beat you ragged as a cedar tree”. Got a holt to some Blind Willie McTell, first time for me. Song is “Searching the Desert for the Blues”. Never heard that metaphor before. I find it real interesting as I learn to hear the difference in the Georgia sound as opposed to Texas, but it’s just dialects, man. The language is the Blues.

Damn, I left out an important cog in the Texas Blues machine, but got it rectified. Plumb forgot about Mr. Albert Collins. Born right up the road from Lightnin’, and a county over from Blind Lemon. Listen to him, and you can hear where SRV got some of his ideas from.

Kevin, I think I know the venue you are referring to. Several blues festivals have come and gone. I think the last one in Columbia folded when the local radio station got bought out.
But we still have so much great live music opportunities (mostly free), that I can’t get to all of them.

Hey Dennis there used to be an annual blues fest on the banks of the Delaware in Columbia NJ I went to a couple times in the late 90’s. Any chance that still happening?
I am fortunate to live in a hotbed of great live music (NJ/Pa). David’s bass player (Suavek) and drummer (Josh) are both locals. I’ve had a chance to hang with them a few times. Great guys and fine musicians.
Speaking of excellent Pa live music, I score some sweet seats for the 12/2 Hot Tuna 50th w/ Larry and Teresa, at the Steel Stacks in Bethlehem. Yeah Buddy!

After seeing Rob and Trey at the Caverns show in TN I can only guess on what kind of night it will be at the Ranch. Hurl promised that I was in for a treat and he was absolutely right ! Anyone going to that show is in for a real treat .
Darn…… I wasn’t aware that there was a Crossroads Festival this year or I may have bought myself a ticket for my birthday on the 21st and spent the weekend in Dallas. Looks like an awesome lineup that should have included Hot Tuna…..Maybe next time . Have a great time Chappy !l@Chappy

Jorma, sorry to miss this coming weekend’s show with you, Rob, and Trey at FPR but several months ago my Big Bro talked me into a Dallas trip this weekend for EC’s Crossroads Festival. Another all-star line-up for this year’s fundraiser for his rehab center. It got me to wondering about your thoughts on EC and whether you guys had ever crossed paths and had a chance to jam together(?). At any rate, I hope he invites HT to play at a future Crossroads event. Looking forward to the season ending show at FPR with HT! It will be an extra special show because I invited my old buddy Gary J. (from NY) to join me for the show in honor of him turning me on to Hot Tuna (Double Dose album) back in 1980 when we were first year students at Ohio University…James Hall on Richland Avenue….40 yrs on. Keep on truckin’
Surely you sold out of the commemorative T-shirts. I consider myself someway of a connoisseur of quality t’s with unique artwork, and this one ranks way up there in my critics choice (I know, everyone’s a critic) but nonetheless, it is definitely a fine piece of artwork apparel. I got several looks and a few comments as I sported it down Beale street. If you ain’t already, I say, “ Gitcha one”.
Great show at Revolution Hall. It was good to see Mr. Bromberg and company in fine form as well. I managed to hook up with Rob Rosen for some dinner. What an incredible tour! See you at the ranch for Happy Traum.

I noticed that Ode To Billy Dean got some heavy rotation this tour. Billy Dean in my estimate is Hot Tuna’s most psychedelic song ever. Always loved the Burgers album. It had just come out when I first saw Hot Tuna in 1973. First time I ever saw Hot Tuna was April 1973. My friends took me to a college on Long Island and gave me a hit of acid then took me to front row seats directly in front of the band. Trippin the lights fantastic!
Not sure if that Moore caption is correct, but it isn’t the first time you played at the Moore. You were there in 2003 opening for the Yonder Mountain String Band, and again in 2009 (acoustic).
But what a great time!
Looks like it was a great run Jorma. Now time for some well-deserved battery recharging.
And I have to say that Bozeman set looked fantastic…maybe we’ll get to hear it someday.
Looking forward to Town Hall in November and maybe, dare I dream, a Third Week???
One can always hope…
