Life is more than interesting on so many fronts… Thanks to all for the illuminating discussion following the complaint at the Boulder Theater. Sometimes you just can’t please everyone.

Moving along…

We limped into River City with some transmission problems on the good old bus… but we made it. Stephen did some parking lot repairs… and we were good to go. It’s a new age for the shade tree mechanic. Anyway, walking into the registration lobby I was greeted by this:

Elvis?

Elvis?

Obviously this is not our normal type of venue… but hey, a gig’s a gig and the production folks here were absolutely the best!

It was a great tour across the spectacle that is America, but it’s great to be home and just be Dad again.

It has been quite a gift to St. Louis fans to have two Electric Hot Tuna shows in six months. The Sheldon was terrific, limited only by their PA which is now clearly inadequate for electric bands.

The River City stop was a very special show…at times I felt spirits gathering around the room, as if Papa John, Grace, Marty, Paul and all the old crew had come to listen to the thunder and delicacy of Hot Tuna at their best. Especially during Good Shepard, Billy Dean and Water Song, there was just something wonderful in the very air as the crowd focused all their attention on the music. The big all-purpose room shrank into an intimate space and the crystalline sounds transported us to another place and time, where music could bring people together in a spirit of joy and peace.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Jorma, Jack and Justin for an amazing experience. We hope to see and her you again soon.

I realize I’m coming late to the discussion of the Boulder show, but my 2 cents. That message had a bizarre feel to it for any number of reasons. But the very fact that Jorma devoted so much time and such careful consideration to his response shows just how dedicated he is to his craft and how seriously he takes it. Aside from the beauty of the music itself, this is why Tuna and Jorma fans are so dedicated. As long as you keep doing this, Jorma (and Jack), we will keep showing up.

Hey Jorma – I sat directly in front of your mic at River City and I can assure you – you guys sounded great as always. Rock is meant to be loud, but you guys know how to do it right – loud but tasteful – with a great deal of dynamic control. Thanks for the explanation on how you “tune” a room and hope to get back to FPR in the next year or so.

Any plans in place to do some shows in Alaska ? My son Paul lives there and he is a big fan .
