Whatever that ‘New Normal’ might be. The Coronavirus spread is touching all of us. Ohio University is closed until the end of May as is Athens High School where our daughter goes. The kids will be studying online and the dorms at OU will be empty. We’ve been lucky so far and we’re doing what we can to prolong that.
More will be revealed.
That said, I did get an eighty mile motorcycle ride in this week on the one beautiful day we had. I didn’t even stop for pictures, just enjoyed the ride!
Then yesterday I hopped in my truck and drove down river to Gallipolis to Temple Tattoo where I considered my next, and probably my last ink. Time to strike now while my skin is still resilient enough.

Here I am with the gang at Temple Tattoo in Gallipolis.
Aside from spending time with friends at the tattoo shop, I filled up my truck with diesel. It was almost 35 cents cheaper that it is in Athens. What’s up with that? Also doing a little light prepping… Water, food, and what? Out of toilet paper!!!! Look out for the poison ivy.
Moving on… be well all of you out there!
@Art
Arthur, are you from Long Island? I think I may have met you at a finger picking and tone enhancement school in Ohio once.
G-d bless the soul of Christopher Hitchens….he was in support of the Iraq war if I remember correctly. I didn’t agree w him on that one. I always liked his way of speaking, though not all the content… He has a brother Peter who is still quite active, pitching from the other side of the aisle. Peter pitches for the Rock.
Just cancelled a cruise to the Caribbean next month.
Bummed out. But better safe than sorry.
What’s going with the upcoming Tuna shows?
Got tix for the LI show this summer at the Paramount.
@Tom: Yes, the Anti-Vaxxers are definitely on to something and it’s nothing good. It’s one thing if they want to kill themselves with anti-scientific ignorance. But if they end up putting everyone else at risk that’s another matter entirely. As Sen. Moynihan once said, Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But they are not entitled to their own facts. As to other crackpot claims people make, as Christopher Hitchens once said, “What can be asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence.”
@carey georgas
Damn spell check can’t spell. Flat- earthers.
@Art
Don’t forget the flat earth era. I don’t have stats, but they’s a bunch of ‘em.
@Art
The 20% who believe in a link between autism and vaccines may be on to something. 9-11 stat may be a bit low. Most folks know the gov’t can’t let the common people know all details of intel, and certainly that is the case for ‘UFOs”.
What is it that worries you Art?
PS Are you the finger picking Art from Long Island, NY?
Nice post, Jorma. Thanks! Stay healthy.
Here’s what worries me during this health crisis.
40% (as of 2000) believe the US government is withholding information about UFOs (Roper)
6% (as of 1995) believe the moon landing was staged; 11% “don’t know” (Roper)
25% (as of 2011) believed Barack Obama was not born in the US; another 18% “don’t know” (Roper)
37% (as of 2013) believe global warming is a “hoax” (PPP)
28% (as of 2013) believe Saddam Hussein was involved in the 9/11 attacks (PPP)
15% (as of 2013) believe the pharma industry invents new diseases in order to profit from them (PPP)
11% (as of 2013) believe the US government allowed 9/11 to happen (PPP)
20% (as of 2013) believe there is a link between childhood vaccines and autism (PPP)
@Tom NY
Just heard Boris Johnson give a review w 2 of his top medical and research aides….what got me is when they said, ‘England is 4 weeks behind Italy (1000 dead), and England is 10 weeks form the peak.”
Here is their very well articulated briefing.

Early measures are key.
Mom was always right about washing the hands,,,just sayin’.
Ok. We’re on the same wavelength. The dispensatonalists say that we are living under the dispensation of grace right now, the next to last one. That’s why I asked. I believe in the gospel of grace. That’s the only dispensation in my belief system.
@carey georgas
Oh no, by no means…Most certainly not… That theory, and some call heresy was developed in the late 1800s if I am catching your drift. I don’t believe in rapture related ideas, like I don’t believe in reincarnation.
@Tom NY
Are you referring to dispensational theology there, Tom?
My hope, prayer and prediction is that by Easter Sunday, the curve will have leveled out and we will be on the down turn, but more drastic measures may have to be taken…
Good early move barring flights from China. I have a Chinese friend who came back from China about 4 weeks ago… She spent 2 weeks at a military base once she arrived…. Good move but unfortunately the ‘novel (new) corona” is coming in from Europe and elsewhere. Corona, Latin for crown, single cell virus that looks under microscope to have a crown.
How bout this for some 21st century imagery….Locusts… Scroll down to see the video.
It’s getting biblical…always has been I guess.

Played Keep Your Lamps Trimmed this morning after going to mass…. All will be well, even when far greater hiccups come….From research I have done, we are actually living in times of mercy, as compared to what may be coming, so keep spreading mercy, grace and forgiveness, and the defend the truth, “because this old world might be almost done.” Thanks for introducing that tune to me General.
That “new normal” brings new SNAFU’s. Better safe than sorry.
Be well!
Gruene hall, only there once- cool place, open air dance hall anchored by bars at both ends- Texas sized.
As for scooter rides – ‘‘tis the season”
Enjoy the change in the weather.
Looks like Jorma will play the Ryman, gotta catch that show.
Toots at Caverns ( very unique venue), E HOT TUNA , graced the cave last year.
Ride on
No kiddin’! I went on a run to get a few nonperishables and such. The toilet paper shelves were bare! Paper towels and Kleenex were hit hard, but the butt-wipes had been sideswiped. I offer no interpretation. If anyone is sequestered (or not) I recommend the new release on Netflix of ZZ Top – That Little ‘Ol Band From Texas. Good history of the band, and they film a lot of it in Gruene Hall, oldest dance hall in Texas. Real cool place. Goin’ there to see Jerry Jeff for my b-day end of March. I venture it would be the number one best place in Texas for an Acoustic Duo show. (nudge nudge, know what I mean?)
