Yes Ham n Eggs that was myself and Joey H at the Historical show…..and I am pretty sure that you introduced yourself to me at the North Brunswick show while we were having pre -show libations in a local bar. That Historical show in NYC was one heck of show and one that Joe and I got to sit in for the sound check……God Bless us all and thank you for Hot Tuna..

Jose’s version was radical for it’s time and I believe it derailed his career somewhat. Hard to believe hearing it today.
Recall a chickenhawk telling me he would have executed Jimi on stage at Woodstock for treason. Of course the fool never Volunteered for anything or stepped up to join any service, unlike Mr Hendrix who was an army veteran of 101 First Air Bourne Division.

No need for apology, Dan. I been going to Astros games for nigh on sixty years. Most of those seasons, we lovingly referred to them as the Lastros. What I can’t understand is that when they assemble the best talent they’ve ever had from top to bottom, they still think they gotta cheat. Hell of it is, in 2017 their road record was better than their home record. I know they done wrong, but I just can’t quit ‘em. I gotta believe they’re gonna earn an honest shot at redemption. This is gonna be a tough season to watch for a grizzled fan like me.
@Tom NY , Dad just thought Jose’s rendition was disrespectful. The evening news was quite the center of controversy even though there were only 3 network and 2 local stations, can’t even imagine what it would have been like with cable. BTW Dad and I were very close much later in life, I grew up and he mellowed

back then watching the weekly body count on the 6:00 news was horrible, Westmoreland manipulation.. I remember a relative say.”just bomb Hanoi and Haiphong.
Lets stay out of stupid wars….then again if we never pushed back against Russia there in Viet Nam, maybe that movement would have spread to Laos, Cambodia Thailand Burma, India etc…. Sometimes you have to push back… Not saying Viet Nam was the place…

I too am very impressed,hoping it turns out to be an audition for the World Series. I am sure @Ham Neggs recalls the Jose Feliciano Star Spangled Banner from the 68 Series. Big fight between me and my Dad over that one (him being an NYC construction worker just one of many as you might imagine). Spring Training brings out the best down here in South Florida, sorry to say @Carey Georgas I am boycotting all Astros games, then again my Marlins aren’t good enough to cheat. Carlin is a master, first saw him in Central Park in 72, the old Schaefer Music Festival, subbing for the Byrds.
Very possible also briefly met Joey ,JohnO(?)and another John outside HistoricalSocietywhen they did Chauffeur Blues@John B

Forgive me, but I kept thinking, this is definitely the Hot Tuna response to the the Hendrix Star Spangled Banner – and done on rare form. it was Hot Tuna to the nth power, and I think Mr. Hendrix would be suitable impressed, too.

Well said on the sobriety point….sobriety and obedience, and a whole lot of love, service, charity, kindness and encouragement. All this brings more clarity.
I love my country…it gave me my language and is my home.. America may have been hijacked in many ways, but it is still a most beautiful place to be… We will all try to make it a better place, so we can export good ideas and truth to the rest of the world and not filth and a corrupt agenda.
You guys looked hip…Jack had some balls on that base… he drove it home.

I happen to be a big fan of patriot songs. When I got a chance to play a song at the FPR Station open mic, I belted out my version of “America (My County ‘Tis of Thee)” on harmonica. This melody served as the de facto national anthem before the “Star-Spangled Banner” was adopted.
This was my first time on stage and it was a bit nerve-racking to have the Captain as my “roadie” and the likes of Woody Mann, Roy Book Binder and many awesome pickers in the crowd. However, that moment will forever live I my heart and mind.

Mr Kaukonen I for one am impressed! Not necessarily with the song but with you being honored to play it. Let me be frank here, I probably would have sat, I’m not a kneeler, if I did stand it would be to hold the flag of our great country upside down during the song. I love America but I fuckin hate amerikkka.
I’m well aware our family, friends and others have made sacrifices to allow me to indulge in my “snowflake”activities. I also know that my most extremely far right life long friends would defend my right to sit or hold the flag upside down. They don’t question my love of this country, just disagree with my views on how to go forward. Generally, if I attend an event where it will be played I find somewhere else to be and return to my seat afterwards.
Think it’s great you played it and while I wonder what Jack would have sounded like singing it, no vocals was the way to go.
What impressed me is that you ,like many of us care, respect, and Love this country enough to be honored and I know your Uncle Timo, your parents and others were right there with you. your wife and children must also be proud that you were given such an honor. Good for you Mr K and , in some ways , I think this is even better for all of us (U.S.).
You should be honored,I wish all the people who play it realized like you do the significance of being able to do so. I apologize if I pontificated too much politically and took up too much space.

Thanks for posting, Jorma. Makes me feel like part of the GSW ’60s night festivities in SF, even all the way from Nashville! Now I think that with enough study of the video and a load of practice, I will finally have a bass part I can play like Jack. Best always to Hot Tuna.
