Sunset at Lake Snowden last Saturday

So we ‘camped’ out Friday and Saturday last and what a beautiful time of year. Chilly enough to the bugs were gone but not so cold we couldn’t hike around in light fall clothes

We’ve got Vault #4 coming up this Saturday and this time it’s something a little different.

There will be musical tidbits as well…

I took an 80 mile motorcycle ride today. The leaves have started to explode into color in the last couple of days. Vinton County was further along than Meigs… but this will be the first true foliage we’ve seen in several years.

Getting out there on the bike by myself was a true delight and I am grateful for every day that I can still do the things I love! Every day is a gift!

Mr. Casady is somewhere in Iowa at the time of this writing so he should be showing up here in the County any day now. We’re both looking forward to teaching and playing.

Who would have thought?

Evening at the Ranch…

Well, that’s about it for now. I’ll probably weigh in again tomorrow.

Stay well!

It sure would be nice if Acoustic Tuna would play in the “Biggest Little City” Reno, Nevada.

@Jorma Well, you’re probably going to hate me for this but I just couldn’t afford a decent Martin guitar, maybe some day when I’m rich and famous like you 😉 I did however find a beautiful new Gibson G45 Studio with acoustic pick up.After my spine fusion I’ll be signing up for lessons with you, Skype? Conference call…? I’ll send you some pics of me with my new guitar, if my smile doesn’t get in the way. God bless you and George and the whole Hot Tuna band and the Fur Piece Ranch. You have cabins there to rent?

I bet tonight’s gonna be fun. I’ve oft wondered if I could ask one question of Jorma about musicians past with whom he’d interacted, who would it be? The most consistent answer I come up with is Janis. He knew her when she was fresh out of Texas, and despite her disdain for the carcinogenic coast, I’m curious if that singular Texan charm girls down here possess was evident when she reached SF, or if she had actually shaken all the dust from her when she left here.

I might have hallucinated this, and that is a distinct possibility, but I kind of remember Jorma playing Santo and Johnny’s “Sleepwalk” beautifully on a lap steel at the Lone Star Roadhouse in NYC. Did that really happen? Could it happen again?

Thank you so much for the continuing treats.

You know, the first solo I ever learned was from STL. 14 y.ol kid with a cheap guitar /amp combo and Black Diamond strings (ouch). I finally got a clue and bumped them down and added a banjo string on top. This was rural NC and only the local drug store sold the strings. Add to that a ’66 Vox Tone Bender, which I still have to this day (along with better guitars). Good times !

Jorma, do you still use the Ampgeg Scrambler? I see they sell it as a bass unit now.

Always looking forward, with blessings !

Jorma, I haven’t played guitar in 37 years now, I gave my favorite Harmony Sovereign to a frind for helping me out…BAD MOVE!!! I agree with you that Martinis are the BEST guitars made. I’m going in for a final back fusion Oct 20, L2,3,4.4 & 5 are already fused as are T10 to L2, so you can see I’ll be walking like i have a stick up my ass. When I get out I’m going to find a medium priced Martin and get started all over again, Luckily I;m a pretty quick learner. I just had a couple of quick answers. What strings and gauges to you prefer to use.Right now I’m in pretty poor shape, I’ve been weening off of the Dilauded they been pumping into my spine for a couple of years, Hope to hear from you someday here

      Hey Dale…
Firstly I hope that your medical issues are resolved in the most positive way.
Now… Martin is well… a Martin. They are consistently of the highest quality regardless of the price. What’s not to like. I have several Jorma Model M-30 Martins and of course I have loved them for over a decade. I would suggest a short scale like a 000-18 or a 000-28, the 18 being mahogany and the 28 being rosewood. As for strings, I use .012’s. You’ll have to figure that out for yourself when the time is right… but I know you will.

Stay well and welcome back to guitar world!
