Another week has slipped by and here we are on the brink of Quarantine Concert #17.

It’s been a decent week as these things are reckoned. As always, the ebb and flow of life essays to keep us on our toes and there is no good time for bad news like it or not. Our world, like so many, exists in a quasi state of limbo, but we always have our concert series and we so look forward to that.

Before I go, in the spirit of admitting when I’m wrong (which is more often than I would like) one of our comment pals observed that he thought I needed a new back tire on my bike. I deflected the comment by saying ‘I’m not even down to the wear marks.’ I took the bike in for a 10,000 mile service and the tech said, ‘Jorma, this tire is toast.’

New tire, bought, paid for and mounted.

Yet one more lesson in life… 🙂

Yeah. When someone mentioned next reunion I described scene and said if it was like first Woodstock II the living would envy the dead, embellishing apocalyptic nightmare with dog trotting through trash smoke clenching human arm and hand.

You ain’t never heard a song man ‘buke a request unless you heard Lightnin’ bust one down. He didn’t like it a’tall. I ain’t jokin’, neither.

The one comparison with you and Jerry that I always held near and dear is that “farm to table ” approach that served up pure roots along with your own personal gems. Not many people could pull that off let alone dare to. Could always rely on yourself or Jerry to play the Capitol Theatre in Pasaic or other venues in Jersey on a regular basis. Always fully aware of how precious those moments were and continue to be.

At 15 I roped my older brother Sean into attending 79′ Woodstock. Sebastion, tripping for first time since White Lake 69′, opened and had a good set. Canned Heat was enjoyable. Country Joe & Fish, too. But; L.I. biker gang Pagans lurking about. Mile high plume from Con Ed transformer fire in Queens unsettled crowd around noon. No grass or hash to be found. Denim jackets, jack daniels and budwiser. People with sense split early. Later, Pagans hurling bottles at Jorma’s bassist and whomever. There were stray dogs eating whatever trash wasn’t burning. Stills sat on bandstand so he didn’t fall down as I remember. Pretty sure Johnny Winter played set and joined incoherent jam. Fortunately, Sean drank a fifth and remembers event as being o.k. Solid-built redhead with movie star looks who clasped hands with Jorma after show, both greeting as if old buddies.

Well, our tour cats, Tinker and Tailor, are still calling for Tom Cat Blues. I told them it not polite to ask a request of the artist and how i heard Deadheads yell St Stephen play St Stephen in 73 to deaf ears. They pounced back saying when they toured in 84 they asked for China Cat and They came through at Red Rocks and Saratoga with second set openers just for them. Its getting ugly here, Tom Cat play Tom Cat Blues!

Also, great comments from Jorma (with some assistance from the fans) last night: Stephen Stills and the ’79 Woodstock reunion (LOL), Grace Slick, Surphase Tension, West Coast Blues, Denny DeGorio, etc. As great as the music is, I could also just listen to Jorma tell stories (at least the ones he remembers) all evening.

I saw Jorma several times during that summer of ’79, including when they used to have concerts at Belmont Park in New York. Almost went to the Woodstock Reunion but didn’t make it.

As someone who loves vinyl, I hate to sound like a broken record but I have to say it again:
THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
(And that mini-lesson was just great.)
