John and I are examining some new gems for this coming weekend and it is highly likely that Myron will sneak in an appearance.
The girls and I made a foray to Columbus yesterday for some socially distant sushi at Akai Hana. It was nice to get out, and they did it up right. Reservations required, temperature checks, masks when not eating and truly delicious food. Sunday, well spent.
0730n Volleyball training for Izze this morning and ‘school’ starts next week. It could be worse…
@Jorma
I stand corrected-glanced at the Iphone and the covers looked similar sans glasses!!! See ya tonight Jorma!!
Have a great day Jorma .Thank you so much !! Cant wait for #18.
Peace & love
Jorma-while working in the yard today Late Breaking News from Blue Country Heart came on my stream…what a great tune I don’t think I have ever heard that before…would sure love to hear it live, perhaps as a duet with Hurl?!
Steve… Thanks for listening… anything that helps with yard work is a good thing. Fact check… Late Breaking News Is on Stars In my Crown.
Just saying… could be time to bring it back.
@Tom NY
Well…it is on the same album.
@MarkD
Is that like requesting Sweet Hawaiian Sunshine?
Yes, it’s Friday morning and looking forward to Saturday night with antici…..pation! Hoping that missing Police Dog shows up. “All my life I’ve been a travellin’ man…”
Many thanks to all at FPR for keeping the lamps trimmed and burning.
Good health and happiness to all.

Always loved Jorma’s intro to “Run Around.” The bass playing isn’t bad either.
Takes off -great “ALBUM”
Bass lines in Let me in -harbinger of a great future
Been good for the head. Thank you.
@carey georgas
I may be wrong, but I believe that “album” as applied to records dates to the early days. If you bought, say,a symphony,it was on multiple 78s, enclosed within covers- just like a photo album.
another great show thanks so much jorma and crew killer version on blind faith tune these shows are really special glad to see myron will be sitting in this week i had asked for him a couple of weeks ago and jh is right on top of it every week all the best to everyone involved
‘Takes Off’ was closer to the pure origins of the San Francisco sound so it has some subtle delicacies that are audible because Signe tended to sing behind Marty…It is hard to separate her voice from Marty’s sometimes…There was a lingering folk element in the mix, probably because of Paul, and airy space that was being played in to that was the San Francisco concept…Grace forced a different dynamic where she challenged Marty and made him subservient in the harmonies…I’m not sure if Marty ever completely adjusted to his new role but it went above and beyond the previous balance and created new edges that the other band members expanded in to for the Airplane sound…I still like the quaint ornateness of the original ‘Takes Off’ band and its rarefied vapors…
The virus is out there and surging so don’t drop your guard…I must be doing something right with my virus filter respirator, alcohol hand sanitizer, and Clorox wipes…After I pack the groceries in the car at Costco I wash my legs and feet & arms and hands with two gallon jugs of water…I try to be careful with the mail and garbage cans…I am still washing my hands with heavy soap and water after handling anything that might be exposed…
My companion Miriam (as in Webster) offers one definition of album as: One or more recordings produced as a single unit. That sets me straight. I instinctively thought of a musical album as synonymous with vinyl. Vinyl’s just a medium, not a synonym. Bad instinct. Again, edification is a result of visiting this blog.
Tuned in late again on Saturday night but thankfully just in time for that super rendition of “Can’t Find My Way Home.” Looking forward to next Saturday with yet even more musical magic from JK, JH, and MH! As always, special thanks to the FPR crew!
Another wonderful show! Thanks to you and the crew!
Question: You and John were collaborating on an album (do they still call them albums?). Just wondering if there’s an ETA on completion? Or did I miss it?
We call them albums indeed. We finished the project last month. fourteen songs in two days… all acoustic, no overdubs. Culture Factory is releasing them… yes them. We did two albums worth of material. One will come out this year, one next. Yes, vinyl too in limited editions. We’ll give you all more details as we get them!
Walking the 3rd string down from the b note in the g chord to the a note in the d chord sounds nice when played that way, though.
@Jorma
Thanks, Jorma. I couldn’t find the right way to put it without sounding (wrongly) condescending – not just a real good album to me, but also extra-impressive as a first one.
And real nice work with the sequencing.
If you haven’t listened to it lately through top-notch speakers….I highly recommend it.
Thanks again.
Possibly the best QC yet! Killer set list From strictly a personal preference stand point. John’s tunes were stellar. Keep em comin!
To tell you what he truth, I had picked it out in G, and when I showed him, he said it should be drop d, without explanation as to why he thought it was necessary, so that’s how I learned it. Haven’t seen him since the Covid hit. Just me and Breakdown Way. I ain’t complainin’.
Ya’ll weren’t in drop d for “Can’t Find My Way Home”, were you? My teacher taught it to me in that tuning.
Nope… I didn’t find it necessary… but whatever works.
Reading your story about someone noticing you back tire’s wear, reminded me of my time working on the flight deck, everytime one of our aircraft landed (F4J Phantoms) we had to check the tires for cuts, etc. 875 psi nitrogen in the main mounts and 450 in nose tires, when they run over even a small object they could get a cut. If the cut was deeper than the wear marks, we’d have to change it, if it was borderline, we’d fill the cut with graphite grease and no one would know. You just shook loose a very old memory.
I’m glad to hear of your venture to Columbus. We don’t know how long this situation will be with us. Getting out and doing some things, things we love, SAFELY, are precious.
✌&💙
Awesome Jorma, love that Highway Song – stay safe!
Good morning, Jorma.
I’m curious about your thoughts on “Jefferson Airplane Takes Off.” I pulled out the old vinyl last night, and while I understand why it’s overshadowed by later albums, to my ears it’s truly excellent.
And did the band have any input on the track sequence? I ask because to me, the second side just gets better and better, with “And I Like It” a really powerful conclusion.
And maybe it’s just my imagination, knowing how things turned out, but on that second side I got the impression: here’s where this band is going.
Takes Off is a bona fide folk rock album in my opinion. It’s a very good freshman effort… and yes we did sequence it ourselves. Interesting looking back…
Really enjoyed #17..Cant believe its been soon many shows so far..Thanks to the whole crew,makes life a little better with all this going on..Jorma you are a Mensch..For those who do not know the meaning, a person of integrity and honor..
