I’ve lost all track of time in this pandemic season. I’m tuned into Saturday nights for the obvious reasons but other than that, the days just seem to run together. Mother’s Day this morning and it suddenly occurred to me that I had missed my Mom’s Jahrzeit which was on May 8th. May 8, 1998 my brother Peter and I drove down into Mill Valley, Calfornia to get her some flowers and when we came back to the house she was gone. The hospice folks told me she would probably wait until we were gone before she took her final journey and that’s how it was. In the Foto above she is ten years younger than I am now, and so it goes.

I still miss you and dad, but that’s as it should be.
And also as it should be, all the living moms get a shout out. Izze and I couldn’t do it without Vanessa, and that’s a fact.
Back in the ‘present,’ we just have so much fun with our Quarantine Concerts that it is definitely the highlight of our week. For the first time we had some technical glitches this weekend. I know that poop happens… that’s life but we won’t be partnering with anyone again. Not that I have control issues, but we just do better on our own. At east we know who to blame. Anyway, Andy, our video director, is putting the who up from our recorded files so it will live again… perfectly.

Thanks, Jorma. I was listening to the Columbia release – good sound quality, and I thought you guys came out and just were on fire. And it was a real kick to have the Airplane blow my mind again all these decades later – had no idea that 20-minute “Wooden Ships” was coming!
Sole complaint – burned-out announcer at end never mentioned you in band intros.
I highly recommend it to anyone out there who hasn’t heard it recently or at all.
Morning, Jorma. I listened to the Airplane at Woodstock last night. To my ears, a truly great performance. Curious: What’s your assessment?
Hey Ed… back then we were playing three to four shows a week… then band was peaking in performance. The delightful chaos that surrounded Woodstock then… and today in memory, may have interrupted the flow of ‘predictable’ professionalism, but all things considered, we acquitted ourselves well. Since the proof of that performance has been committed to archival footage, I guess it’s up to you guys to make the call. Me, I’m OK with it.

I read a quote recently that is one of those that just stick with you
“When a dad helps a son, both laugh. When a son helps a dad, both cry.”
So, I was settin’ there pickin’ a bit, waiting for the show to start, picked a bit more, checked the blog after about ten minutes, waited a little more, all the while thinking, well, as long as it’s not attributable to any harm becoming Jorma or his, hell, I hadn’t paid for no ticket. I’ll just sit and pick until the appointed end time and it’ll either be or not. Along about that time, Bam! There he was. The show, as always, was grand. Screw a glitch. That’s what absolutely live is all about! Takes a glitchin’ and keeps on pickin’! That’s what I’m talking about!
Out of sync or not, thank you! Heaven’s Door was thrilling!

“Song For The High Mountain” was a huge surprise. It’s one of my favorite Jorma songs. Never thought you’d play it. I’m so glad to hear that you’re continuing these Quarantine Concerts. Thanks to the entire crew at FPR for bringing it every week. Really appreciate these shows so much.
Last show was out of sync but then again at times so am I So its all good. Keep up the shows they have become a highlight of the week for me and the Mrs. Thank You

We partnered with some folks who screwed up the feed. We won’t do that again. That said, our videographer Andy Walla, is replacing the out of sync parts with in sync footage we recorded that night.
If you want something done right… do it yourself. You’ll always know who to blame.

Hurl and Jorma…..outstanding!
May 8th is hard for me too..My son Brandon would have been 30 this past May 8th..He passed 6 1/2 years ago from this terrible opiate crisis..Jorma you had sent me a condolence at the time after I wrote about my grief on this blog which I appreciate.. my wife is also Beatrice,another coincidence..May your Beatrice and my Brandon both Rest In Peace and G-d look over them..We light Jahrzeit on Yom Kipper too..
