Yeah, another grand time for us.
Tomorrow I’m leaving for the D.C. Metro area to actually play a show at the Birchmere in Alexandria. I’ve been looking forward to this for a while and I decided I just couldn’t let the shameful events in D.C. last week keep me away today. Got my Covid-19 test today and I’m still negative. Onward indeed.
Today I got together with Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley and we spent three really fun hours co -writing a song together. You’re going to love ‘Pay Someone To Pay My Dues.’ Waiting for the demo…
More will be revealed.
National politics may be depressing, but the music has certainly been sustaining me. On this note, gotta get some sleep. Up to drive to Arlington.

Man, what a show last Saturday! In the Kingdom, Corners without Exits, and Flying Clouds. Three absolute gems from the JK repertoire (in addition to all the other great stuff). Thank you.
Jorma’s performance to the hometown crowd at the Birchmere was as great as anticipated. Jorma even had Jack and Chester join us briefly at the start via Facetime. Fun stuff! A little over an hour and a half seventeen song set was imparted to us and the venue followed Covid-19 seating distancing just right. I hope Gary Oelze takes Jorma’s mention to heart and books he and Mr. Hurlbut together in the not to distant future. That gig would make it #61 for me too. Now looking forward to Jorma on Saturday night on the big screen in my living room.

Talk about a great worship space…….many years ago my wife and I drove from the Garden State to Lake Tahoe to attend the wedding of one of her cousins. Lake Tahoe was in full view behind a floor to ceiling wall of glass in front of which the newlyweds took their vows. What a sight that was. Afterward the reception took place in a restaurant that had this magnificent tree growing up and through the roof. I could never remember the name of that place but I never forgot it. There are so many beautiful places in this country and Tahoe ranks right up there at the top.
The “caverns”, home of bluegrass underground is a truly unique venue,not quite as dramatic as Red Rocks ,more of its inverse .Its in Monteagle Tn ,and home of the truly unique Monteagle inn ,a double dose of roadside Americana,you probably stayed there.It was a good show with unique acoustics ,Jack’s bass carried well in the moist air.
We had tickets to see Toots &Maytalls there in August ,two weeks after his new release, RIPToots Hibbert.
They’re slated for a lot of shows this spring ,if you return ,take the 10 minute trek to Suwanne ,university of the south.They have a chapel at their seminary ,that’s one of Faye Jones (Frank Loyd Wright student) flagship designs ,a great worship space ,transparent .It’s got the fit and finish of a motor Guzzi .
Tomorrow will be my wife’s first Jorma show, as she came to the U.S. from Ukraine late last year…can’t wait!

My buddy John and I traveled down to Tennessee year before last and saw a couple a Tuna shows . One of them was in the cave at the venue called the Cavern . What a place to see a show in what turned out to be my only Hot Tuna show that actually took place in a cave complete with bats. Was that Tunas first experience playing in a cave ? Rob and Trey opened that show and they were just awesome ! Another example of getting turned on to some great music while going to see Hot Tuna . Safe travels and stay well and I hope to see you down the road in 2021.
I’m really looking forward to the Birchmere gig. It’ll be the 60th time I’ve come to see you perform in concert from coast to coast in venues large and small and it’s taken well over 40 years to do so. My first Jorma solo performance was right here in DC at Georgetown University back in the day. I can’t wait for Wednesday! Thanks for all you do!
