Yeah, S. Clay Wilson shuffled off this mortal coil… As the checkered Demon would say, ‘Nice day for nothin,’ as he got together with his biker buddies, The Flying F*ck’n A Heads. As for R. Crumb, I’ve got all his Heroes Of The Blues trading card sets. We used to sell them at our Company Store. Don’t forget R. Crumbs ‘Cheap Suit Serenaders.’ Let’s not forget Terry Zwigoff. If you haven’t seen Ghost World or Bad Santa get with the program.
Yeah, time is marching on and my generation is trying to hold onto the short end of the stick. We’re all trying to prolong the run as long as possible. With the run in mind, here’s the FLA sdt:

As much as i think that the acid tests generally were important on a sociocultural and a personal level and were mostly positive experiences for those that could choose whether or not to partake, i always found it alarmingly suspicious that the one major screw-up happened in Watts.
This date in history: 2/12/1966, 2nd Test, Watts
“Yeah, S. Clay Wilson shuffled off this mortal coil…”
Such an interesting turn of a phrase. I get the gist I suppose, but then I am watching Star Trek today and hear the phrase yet again by a character called Q, so I looked it up and learned something new. Needless to say I never thought I’d be researching Shakespeare as a result of reading this blog. To be or not to be, indeed. So thanks for that.
Enjoyed also reading about S Clay’s interesting life but then saw he had a turning point and the last of it was rough. Which in turn gave me some gratitude
for where I am today.
Good place to be.

Hey Jorma,
I pulled out the original vinyl of Bless Its Pointed Little Head last night (what a great album) and discovered that somehow I still have the cool poster that came with it inside. Do you have one of those? If not, would you guys like it for the Gallery? Free of course!

Gotsta let my Texan braggadocio flag fly a little. Mr. Shelton was a native Texan. He helped lay the groundwork for the culture I stepped into at age 18 in Austin after coming out from a life lived behind the Pine Curtain. He developed a local character that was what I’d call a “dirt road” Mr. Natural. His name was Oat Willie and he traveled the world in a wheeled bucket of oats wearing a pilot’s cap and goggles, crying “Onward, through the fog!”, wherever he went.
Thanks for a great show Jorma ! I can speak for everyone with some confidence when i say, Boy we really needed that… My wife and I were lucky enough to share the experience with one of my dearest friends and his lovely Mrs. We were reminiscing at dinner about when we saw you at Lone Star 1984 and then you told your Lone Star story, loved it. Stay well and Keep on Truckin’… thanks for sharing the R Crumb news. Very sad indeed.
Gilbert Shelton was always my favorite. Those Fab Furry guys always cracked me up, esp. Fat Freddy’s cat. I still have a couple of the original comic books, good reading on a snowy day. m
The ZAP panoply of characters was the best
Shuman the human ,Pete the plumber ,Ruby the “—-“,Capn p—-gums,
Honey bunch ,on and on .
Not one could hold a card to Mr .Natural himself.
Great cover on Big brother -lids?
The sewer snoids could drive you crazy I guess ,they sure unnerved Pete the plumber.
I always liked the caricature vignettes ,they’d sneak in a cartoon cameo of Dylan ,Babe Ruth , even Sir Paul grac d the pages.
We would fall off our bunks laughing at that stuff.
Oh and a big mazel for River Flows charting (with a bullet), maybe a Grammy nod ? Well deserved honor
R.I.P. Mary Wilson……………
Great looking stack of songs indeed……as for R. Crumb , when my daughter attended college in Philadelphia PA I made a plan to visit her and go out to lunch . As luck would have it there was a showing of Crumb artwork at another university so I decided to take her to the showing so she too could enjoy the crazy art of Mr Crumb. Of course I had completely forgotten , for some still unexplained reason , how filthy Crumbs work could be . Halfway through the display I apologized and asked if she wanted to leave . She explained that she wasn’t a little kid anymore and could handle it .
Sorry I missed this show. Drive safe.
Sad to hear about S Clay, brings back memories of picking up Zap Comix and sketching from those pages in an altered state. Great setlist a veritable explosion of tunes. Hope it inspires a return soon. Enjoy the road and Stay Safe.
