We just wound up our closing weekend of 2021 and as always at times like this it was a bittersweet moment. There some really great folks to help us close this tumultuous year. There were some wistful moments, but we all left with a smile!
Jack Casady, Justin Guip and myself had some big fun playing a show and warming up for our upcoming Fall Tour. There couldn’t be a better place to do this than the Fur Peace Ranch!

Photographer lost in time
Then in class there was a moment with the J-50 boys!

And so we bid a fond adieu to the Emerald Isle (Metaphorically speaking) until next year. All things considered with all the stress and tsuris, it could have been worse… much worse!
It was such a great weekend. It was so special to be back. Thanks for sharing all you do with us. I know you worry about what we get out of it, but you shouldn’t. You always deliver. I am working on “A little More Faith In Jesus” this evening. As the Rev would say… “Great God!”
Heads up on twin bill shows; Headline act will play set(s) correspondingly shorter, meaning upcoming acoustic/electrics won’t be repeat of shows from 20 years ago. I guess Port Chester will differ. Also, an undisclosed date for which a “friend” has hatched a plan to coerce band into throwback concert. Can’t reveal much, save to say it involves doors being locked from outside and transport vehicles on blocks.
To Jorma, Vanessa, Izze and all of my friends down at the Fur Peace Ranch,
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
Dale & Beverly Radeleff
What fun at the Birchmere last evening! A packed house with Steve Kimock and Friends opening ahead of a 17 song set by electric Hot Tuna. Steve and his band took us on a cool jamming journey to set the evenings tone for sure. Familiar faces from FPR were about, Vanessa here and there, Myron ‘quipping stage left, Jack looking especially sharp in his chic black attire accessorized by a blue and a red signature Epiphone bass, Justin’s spot on drumming and you should’ve seen their guitar player/vocalist! Dunno where Jack and Justin found him but he sure knew his stuff! That guy and Jack laid out Funky #7 like crazy like they did on the Quarantine concert. You just had to be there. All in all great to see the boys back in town as they used to do in Thanksgivings past. This ought to spur you to get tickets for their upcoming appearance at a venue near you! Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to the Kaukonens, Jack, and Tuna nation.
G_d Bless America, land that I love.
@John B
Thanks to the good people at Count Basie for their efforts to support live music during these tough times. They’ve done yeoman’s work to bring us great Jorma shows (with some Hurl on the side). And it looks like David Bromberg (not Grisman) will be there as well. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that!
See ya soon,
Dennis
Not to needle anyone on a touchy topic, but I just wanted to make an observation about venues requiring proof of vaccination:
I had to show such proof over the last 6-7 weeks to see Tommy Emmanuel, Rosanne Cash, and Bob Dylan.
Regardless of health considerations, given the music I heard I’ll gladly roll up my sleeve any time.
Just sayin’.

Was just wondering
Any chance for a Ramones song on the 17th?
Think my oldest was nine when we saw them at the Capitol. gabba gabba hey? Rockaway Beach 1234…

A thought for you from my morning prayer, on this Monday of Thanksgiving week, on the eve of your Fall Tour:
A commentary on Psalm 32
“Rid yourself of what is old and worn out, for you know a new song. A new man, a new covenant; a new song. This new song does not belong to the old man. Only the new man learns it: the man restored from his fallen condition through Grace….To it all our love now aspires and sings a new song. Let us sing a new song not with our lips but with our lives.”
Thank You. Now, saddle up the turkeys and off you go.
Have fun, be well
Thanks for filling me in about the rifletar. Very inventive! I’ve seen something similar, built for actual use by a guy named Glen Burton.
We’ll see you a little further down the road!
Good looking group you had there Jorma . I am looking forward to catching some Hot Tuna acoustic and electric shows in the upcoming weeks . Still trying to figure out which shows i can catch other then Red Bank New Jersey which we have had tickets now for about 18 months ! I had prayed to the good Lord to help me in the area of patience ……..see you out there on the road Jorma . Be well and stay safe and may god continue to bless you , your family and the entire Tuna family.
I’ve heard that with many light-up fretboards, there is a slight volume boost when it lights up–like pushing “10” to “11”.
Have a great fall tour, Jorma!
Since there are already 2 Toms posting, I thought I would jump in… Hello St. Louis and other.
Jorma, I hope you enjoy ripping up your next Living Just For You. That melody is unique and sweet…a bit like telling a story… at least 2 chapters.
I saw that done by Hot Flipping Tuna at Fur Peace….I had not heard the tune in a decade or two…It was Power Trio on steroids (no crack allowed)… I was deeply moved… I did have a front row seat because I was one of the students that weekend….Volume was just right.
At intermission, I went up to Vanessa and interrupted her as she was chatting w a local friend. Yup, I interrupted Vanessa. I said to her, “that Living Just For You was sublime, moving, brilliant, quintessential Jorma/Hot Tuna. I haven’t heard that in decades”.
Vanessa said with a smile and an attitude of like, get outta here, “what!!!??, have you been living under a rock?! GO buy yourself a hamburger!” I had a big laugh and walked about…
Autumn in southern Ohio, at Jorma’s crib….everyone should try it.
Dig the Ampeg Reverberocket and SST, not to mention the Marshall!
What’s the six-string AR-15 in the background? Myron’s guitar?
That’s a Wal-Mart toy that’s been fitted with real pickups, caps and pots. The fret board used to light up with the original electronics but it just didn’t work with the upgrades. It’s a great conversation piece!. 🙂
That SST is beautiful. When I show up to a venue I love to see it on stage knowing that it will be played!
The Reverborocket and SST picture is photo credit Pete Stern (sent to PK’s phone) if there are any residuals.
For those who missed it, during Roads and Roads & there was a strap malfunction which made Jorma squat in a crouched position to finish out the song. True showmanship!
Thank you for the great show and weekend, Captain.

Keep on Trucking mama indeed

I think an Emerald Isle tour for your 85th birthday would be mighty Craic .
Had a wonderful evening in Kingston the other night with Patti Smith and Lenny Kaye at a sold out indoor theatre Stay safe, stay well. Peace✌🏻️❤️Love All Ways🔥🚲🌹🙏🏻🖖🏼
