An in person weekend at the Ranch. It was a really good one! I was teaching an electric class this weekend and for the most part my Di Angelico Excel EXL-1 got the call. What a great guitar!
Saturday night Peter Rowan and the Texmaniacs graced our stage at the Fur Peace Station and needless to say it was great to have live music on stage and a live audience!

So, stage center we see Peter Rowan playing my Flammang J-35 and sounding great… of course! Surrounded by Los Texmaniacs, we have on the left Max Baca playing a Bajo Sexto and singing. On the right Jimmy Baca on button accordion and singing. Lee Ray Romero Jr. bass guitar and unseen… Carl Lee Lucero drums.
There is no question in my mind that Pete Rowan is one of our most significant American artists. That’s saying a lot… but I’m saying it! He can go so many directions, but all are profoundly beautiful. Now, a few words about the Texmaniacs. A great bunch of guys to begin with but as musicians, well… off the charts! This show had me transfixed for two long sets… start to finish. You all just need to hear them for ourselves!
Meanwhile, back at the Ranch… we had another day of guitar playing!

Then on Monday morning I drove Rob Rosen and his two boys to the Gordon K. Bush OU Airport for their flight back to the Carolinas.

What a great weekend,
Tomorrow, John Hurlbut, Myron Hart and myself set sail for Rochester JCC for a gig! Yes, we’re on the road again… thank goodness! I will be dealing Hurl into my shows and we will be performing songs from The River Flows, Vol. I and II. I will be doing my own show as well, of course.
We’re going to have big fun!
Really big fun.
Continue to stay well!
Great shows last night in Ridgefield . That last song you guys did in the second show “Someone’s Calling ” is one of the finest songs I have ever heard and Jorma your fine, delicate picking still has me shaking my head. A John Hurlbut original that tugs at the heart strings and won’t let go from start to finish . John Hurlbut you have composed a gem. I saw a few people wiping away tears during that one. Looking forward to the Eatontown New Jersey shows this coming weekend. The venue is just a few miles off of the Garden State Parkway , Rte 18 , New Jersey Turnpike. If anyone has been thinking of going you better hurry up and get a ticket cause you don’t want to miss these two shows.
Congrats Joey.
Congratulations to you and your fiancé Joey. I am happy for you both . @Joey Hudoklin

May you be Blessed with Peace,Love, and laughter. Congratulations to you and your companion. Peace✌🏻️❤️Love All Ways🔥🚲🌹🙏🏻🖖🏼
Hi Jorma. My fiance Amy & I are marrying today in Santa Barbara. Do Not go Gentle, Living in the Moment, and Watersong will be played during the processions of the ceremony, and we will dance to Genesis at the reception. 😂
I owe you a huge debt of gratitude for helping to shape my life, music, ambition to pursue the things I love most (artistic creativity). Sobriety, without which none of this is possible, which has come to fulfill a loving union later today.
Thank you thank you thank you to you and Jack and Vanessa.
✌&💜
Walk together always!
When you’re flyin’ you got nothing left to fear…Good to see Rob back there, I’ve liveried him to and from Gordon K. Bush airport a few times myself. Wish I could have been there. See you in Connecticut, JK. I’ll see Dr. Rob in NC in a few months.
Well I’m surviving with no Saturday Night Free Quarantine Concert.
The largeness of your smile in all the photos tell the story of how great things are shaping up.
I will see you in October.
Keep On Keeping On!
Vogel and Grotto shows were outstanding . I will see you at Suneagle and probably at the Basie in December.@DennisK
Turn my life down would be a treat .
If there was a way to think through If you feel as well .
That guitar was great
My brother and I have great seats for the Suneagle Golf Club show on July 23. The Count Basie folks have been dialed-in for a while now. The Vogle and Blu Grotto shows were epic. I am so glad John is on this run with the Captain. See ya soon… BtW Angle Island is an awesome song, just saying. Heard the Brother Brothers sing it @fpr. So sweet.
Should be an awesome tour. I saw in a recent interview where you are bringing back ‘Turn My Life Down’. Is that just for Tuna shows or solo sets, too? I hadn’t realized you were the author – beautiful piece. m
Drive safe Captain.
Glad to read this. Just received a message from JCC and no mention of John. Looking forward to to a very special evening. Safe travels.
John will be there… i assure you! 🙂
Great shot of the Green , Green Grass Of Home……. Glad that you are heading back out on the road and that Hurl will making the trip with you . A lot of people are looking forward to these shows; including myself. I am happy that the Peter Rowan show went off so wonderfully , it was one of the shows I had hoped to see there . Many years ago ….. heck , decades and decades ago ‘ am I really measuring time this way now ……… I saw Rowan at a place called Alexanders in the piney woods of New Jersey. Little tiny town called Browns Mills….you were on the bill. It was during your ovation years and when you had your hair all slickered back……
Nice shot Jorma…. Did you get a new phone or camera? Brightest shot I’ve ever seen on your Blog.
Brother John on the Road w Jorma… Long time coming… I hope he makes good coffee on the road like he does at the Ranch…. He always seemed to like serving the campers. Service. I miss that buffet.
PS Is that a young David Crosby in that class picture? Just sayin’
To muddle metaphors, as the RV prairie schooner sets sail for Roch-cha-cha fly high you free Mexican air forcers! A fitting show suggestion for the traveling playlist shuffle, if you wish:

Great to hear about students and concerts back in full swing at the FPR!
Do have Big, Safe Fun
Now, that’s what normal looks like! Green grass and high skies with people in the house. A good time was undoubtedly had by all. Those traveling’ shoes will be broke back in before you know it. Keep yourself safe out there on the road. Texas could sure use a dose of you and Hurl. Eyes peeled and fingers crossed.
