Getting short on any run over the years always makes me a little wistful in an odd way. It’s kind of like those first feelings of Fall where change begins to filter life around you before you even notice. Up north where we were the season was a little more advanced, sort of a harbinger of things to come for those of us who live six hundred miles south.

Yeah this was to be heady stuff indeed. Returning to the Beacon under any circumstances would be awesome… to be in the company of Derek and Susan, well… most cool! Needless to say, there were some darn good hangs happening!

I’ve spent so much time at the Beacon, it actually did feel like home!

The gang graciously invited me to sit in for two songs and Susan more than graciously allowed me the use of her Gibson Beano for the duration. My meeting her guitar back in the last decade inspired me to get one of my own from the Gibson Custom Shop! I got to play on two songs, Don’t Think Twice and Keys To the Highway! More than a good time!

It was great to meet Marcus King and to hear him play with Derek and Susan. The good stuff just kept coming!
Then it was time so say goodbye and drive up to Kingston.

A late night dash to Kingston and a same day gig at Levon’s in Woodstock.

A great run and great to be back home! The ebb and flow of time seems inconsistent to me right now.
It needs more thought so I’ll just let it go at that!
Ha, ha. Drivel, I love it!
@Greg martelli ,
On the other hand, maybe John is being cute by omitting direct disparagement of Chinese people. Like you writing “Folks should read…”. You mean folks here, but it’s not explicitly stated. The implicit message is that folks are ignorant of what you know and need to get with the program. I find it helpful to ask myself what’s really bothering me, which is never the surface issue.
Do you suppose Kaukonen really wants to slap that little mama pistol in her face?
I’ll get those out this week for sure, Edward. Does it rain heavier in that part of NJ than further up? Damn.
I hope I’m not offending by posting about something that should be ignored, and I believe John’s venting is over-the-top, but he may not have realized the dog whistle nature of “China virus”. His post may sound xenophobic, but I think he believes what he’s saying about the CCP and vax. I doubt he despises ethnic Asians, and he didn’t write anything about US demographics, did he?
I’m done.
Peace.
@Joey Hudoklin
Hatred is a pretty strong word.
All I said was China.
Isn’t that where the VIRUS came from?
Folks should read Gatewood Galbraith ‘s (RIP), and good friend of Willies;
THE LAST FREE MAN IN AMERICA ,he was a good friend .
This is principally a music forum and one that celebrates the life ,music and experiential life context of all involved .The unctuous patronization and sycophancy & castigation of a contributor ,whose assertion about the undeniable origin of the virus is dangerous ,and flys directly in the face of common sense .
And the vitriol with which it was delivered is frankly unbelievable.
Long live rock
Be it dead or Alive .
@BrendanC
Sorry I missed your note, Brendan. I did check in here yesterday – but before you posted, and what I saw going on made me get the heck out of here.
The Chinese don’t even have nuclear weapons. That shit is fake news. For decades they have known and quietly practiced jumping jacks at the same time. They read in Ripley’s Believe it or not that if they jump in synchronized harmony at the same time landing together as one the resulting tsunami will sink the entire west coast .
They also rigged the election twice so someone would be a two time loser in popular votes. Their scientists did not know about the electoral college the first time.
They also started the Black Lives Matter.
Funny people talking about Germany and in Texas the Not the Democrats passed a law putting a bounty on people and encouraged snitching, how bout NYC where people were routinely stopped, frisked and arrested and the parks were shut down. But you guys have your freedom and don’t follow like a lemming . Peace✌🏻️❤️Love All Ways🔥🚲🌹🙏🏻🖖🏼
Biden is a right wing democrat and we’re it not for the idiot before him I would have said there is not much difference at all between him and The elephants in the room.
Now please Jack just cranked it up and the beginning of Bow Legged Woman is arriving. Just let me ride the music.🤫🕺🙈🙉🙊
And here I was waxing nostalgic about how together our Hot Tuna family was on Saturday nights during the quarantine concert series…..
@carey georgas
Yessiree.
Hatred has no place here
@john o
Don’t give a rat’s ass about politics. You used wat I consider a divisive, racial pejorative and I called it out.
@john o
John O… You are not alone. Glad you are standing up. Evil prevails when good men do nothig.
China is also flooding this country w fentanyl and Biden has the borders open. Biden is a puppet, being manipulated. He may even be compromised. Durham released his second indictment recently. More will be revealed. Stand your ground John O. I too like natural immunity. I like the Israeli study… Look at how highly vaccinated Vermont, is having a severe outbreak of the Cove… (the kids are calling it the Cove)
How bout this from a Nobel Prize nominee
Dr. Vladmir Zelenko, MD August 2021
He is a Haredi Orthodox Jew and a follower of the Chabad movement. Lives in Monroe NY, not far from where Jorma was living before Jorma left for Fur Peace. I was at Jorma’s farewell party, garage sale, auction, barbeque, Jack and Jorma show, w Roy Bookbinder…and then off they rode to Ohio.
(This Jewish man has great information of fighting the COVE so go to his website)
The Doctors words:
“There’s a mass psychosis.
It’s akin to what happened in German society before and during WWII where normal, decent people were turned into aides and “just followed orders” type of mentality led to genocide.
I see now the same paradigm happening.”
John O, Carey may mean well but he often just touts what he thinks is the company line.
@carey georgas
Name ONE good thing Biden and Harris have done right so far?
And dude, you don’t know me. Why would you say that about me?
Just came across this article today.
https://ultimateclassicrock.com/grace-slick-jefferson-airplane-live-debut/
“No disrespect intended” ranks right up there next to “some of my best friends are (insert minority here)”. That’s all I have to say about that.
@Joey Hudoklin
Somebody has to comment on what’s really going on in America.
We’re not all WOKE or democrat.
Can’t there be dissent with what’s going on in America or are we all lemmings?
For what it”s worth…( great song) I had co- morbitys out the old wazoo…high blood pressure ,overweight,heart stent put in ten months before I caughtit, high cholesterol …..have I forgotten anything…? I don’t think so but I have taken steps to be in much better shape for next years spring and summer tours !
I had the dreaded virus back around Thanksgiving of last year and after 5-6 days by the grace of our Lord and saviour Jesus I did revover. I do follow the science as well and was told by a doctor that I did not need the “shot” that it may prove detrimental to my health to get it. There is no need to disparage another persons decisions regarding their own health care so please , let’s not go negative here regarding politics cause sure as shit Jorma will close it all down . I love you all and what each of you bring to the chat. Stay well and I hope to see you at the next show and keep praying that this virus will continue to recede into the rear view mirror .
Thanks Joe for the info. Wrong of me to have called I guess and relied on the person that answered the phone on behalf of the Winerey to give me the correct information. No problem …I missed a couple a shows along the line . I will be prepared for Red Bank and any other Tuna shows I may be able to make including the one in the Poconos…..see at the next show!@Joe K
No loss for Huntington
@john o
Oh my. You’ve completely exposed yourself.
Thank you.
It’s good to know where people stand. Helps me know my boundaries.
Do some research if you want the truth. The Chinese are ruthless evil Communists who want to destroy America and see weakness in Washington so they decided to strike.
Take it easy. Chinese Americans are American and not communist. No disrespect intended. Meanwhile the Democrats continue to ruin this country with their Massive Spending Bills, Increased Taxes, Socialist-WOKE Agenda, Open Borders, Growing Inflation, Afghanistan Debacle, Covid Crisis, Rampant Crime, CRT Agenda etc, etc.
All since Fuckin Biden got in!
@carey georgas
@Joey Hudoklin
The band will play something that makes your jaw drop and someone nearby is screaming to his friend about the price of eggs in Oslo. I loved that about Piermont Hold everything till the song is over. I just prefer conversations held in between rather than during. Peace✌🏻️❤️Love All Ways🔥🚲🌹🙏🏻🖖🏼
I laughed when I heard alcoholism used to be called the Irish Virus (in NY, anyway). Wonder if the loneliness many believe a big part of that disease accounts for tribal rejection of the other, even at expense of ours or other’s life – an unconscious need to sate that longing by rejecting society’s values. “Feel like slapping, pistol in your face”. What songs are they rehearsing. Heap those tickets while you can.
@carey georgas
Thanks for speaking out on this. I was stunned to see that slur. It’s important to make sure that hateful comments, no matter how brief, do not find a home anywhere in the presence of rational, thinking people. Hopefully there will come a day when the red carpet is universally rolled up for anyone making such comments and their world will get smaller and lonelier as they are mummified in their ignorance.
Fortunately, in my opinion, the Paramount in Huntington is requiring patrons to be fully vaccinated or provide a negative test, for Hot Tuna’s and any show. I’m looking forward to my first live show since before COVID, and grateful that my husband and I will not be elbow to elbow with unvaccinated folks.
I’m vaccinated, of course. Only side effect was temporary ability to play guitar like Eric.
Ed, if you check in here today leave a note. I’ll be near Princeton (Homer Simpson symposium on fake science and donughts) this afternoon to look at something and sticking around for Party Larkin show at Hopewell theater. Our gracious host will vouch for her guitar chops, voice, artistry and all around good personage. Plenty of tickets and worth the price. I think you’re nearby. I have those cds in vehicle.
@john o
I have made a personal decision to no longer let comments I perceive as racist, or racially prejudiced, go unanswered. There has been a distinct rise in violence against the Asian, and more specifically Chinese community ever since Donald Fucking Trump deemed it the “China Virus” from behind the Presidential Seal. To use that pejorative anywhere is offensive. To use it here, where our host is the proud parent of a child of Chinese descent is purely self absorbed and insensitive. Imagine all the people, living life in peace. You’ll think differently.
@Ham Neggs
Stupid shit huh?
I’m surprised at u.
@john o
And how was it smallpox and polio came to be eradicated? Oh yeah, super aggressive national vaccination strategies. Well, glory be!
Bless you for your patience. Peace✌🏻️❤️Love All Ways🔥🚲🌹🙏🏻🖖🏼
thanks again Mr K for the shows and being able to post pretty much unrestrained.
Hot Fuckin Tuna get a Double Dose.though over the years I found a need for booster or two. I also think my electric fondness at shows is somewhat that the sonic effect drowns out people talking stupid shit in the middle of the music. Blah,blah,blah ba blah.
@Joey Hudoklin
@john o
I’m glad you got over it. Unfortunately, some 700,000 Americans did not as of this post.
I am most certainly being careful. I take suggestions from experts.
Hi Jorma,
Glad your recent road trip went well. Nice to say hello to Myron and Phil. The Port Washington show was special. Two sets, you were enjoying yourself, and the audience appreciated it, you squeezed in 1 or 2 extra. As a Port resident, I enjoyed your story about your 1960 road trip to legendary “Ghost Motorcycles” and the ‘Death Don’t Have No Mercy’ dedication to the proprietor. Best to your family.
@Joey Hudoklin
I’ve already had the China Flu. It’s not that bad. It felt like the flu and recovered in about 5-6 days. If you’ve already had it you’re immune and don’t need the vaxx.
I follow the real science (not Fauci) and the Israeli studies which have shown that natural immunity is 27x more effective than the vaxx with no side effects. This virus is not like smallpox or polio which were eradicated. It’s insidious. Be Careful.
It’s not a bad idea to be vaccinated.
This is from the NH Winery website
IMPORTANT NOTICE – COVID SAFETY PROTOCOL UPDATE
As we try to safely navigate through difficult times for performers, venues and concertgoers, we have followed the industry lead and updated our Covid 19 Safety protocol. Beginning September 9, 2021, New Hope Winery Event Center will require proof of COVID vaccination or a Negative Covid-19 PCR test (administered 72 hours or less) prior to entering all shows. At entry, you will be asked to provide your identification in addition to this information. All ticket orders will be subject to venue instated policies at the time of the show. These policies and procedures may differ from policies at the time of purchase.
Looks like you got bad info at the Box office.
Hey Jorma I am happy to see that you are out on the road and doing as many shows as you can and having a blast doing it . I drove out to the New Hope Winerey with the expectation of catching both of your shows. Before heading out I called the theatre and asked if their were any special requirements to attend and was told none at all other then wearing a mask when not seated at the table. So I drove the 90 minutes to New Hope , had a nice dinner at the bar which included a very nice conversation with Myron, after which I excused myself to go down and buy my ticket. In the words of the immortal Gomer Pyle….”Surprise ,Surprise ,Surprise “ I was told that without proof of vaccination there would be no shows for me . Now I remember when you guys instituted the rule at the Ranch that barred admission without vaccination and you said out on the road it was up to the venue and or the promoter. Did I miss something here ? New Hope said it was your wishes not theirs . I would really liked to have attended but what can you do ? So I drove home. There will be other shows so I didn’t get to upset . But is it a reality that if I want to see you or Hot Tuna anywhere I have to produce the C D C vaccine card? Next on the Calender for me is Count Basie in Red Bank. N. J. for Hot Tuna . The theatres policy is a card or proof of a negative test within 72 hours of showtime. Is that the case Jorma ? I do hope to catch a few Tuna shows on the Fall/WinterTuna Tour. It’s been a while . Please let me know and God bless you and theTuna family . See you soon……hopefully.
Hello Jorma,
Just wanted to let you you rock our world!
Beautiful shot of the Catskills. Now they’re fully ablaze in brilliant reds, oranges and yellows. It’s natures last gasp before winter. Nature is absolutely magical. Just love the Catskills, so lucky to live here. Great set at home in Woodstock! Great Divide Revisited, Hamar Promenade and In The Kingdom were my favorites. So glad to see you again. I’m hoping to see you and Jack as Electric Hot Tuna in Huntington Long Island next month.
I hope the pipes welcome Paddy
RIP
Welcome home. Will recordings of the Levon sets be sometime available, somehow? Looks like a performance for the ages. m
More beautiful, set lists, venues, and friends!
With a welcome home, before the next go round.
And, Another Man Done Gone…
Go in Peace Paddy Moloney.

“Our music is centuries old, but it is very much a living thing,”
Good hangs are sure enough good thangs.
Nice to see the photo of the Landmark on Main building. When I grew up in Port Washington the building was one of six elementary schools in the district. When my father grew up there it was the high school. Glad to see that the old building, which must be about 110 years old now, has been preserved and is being put to good use.
@Brian in spokane
Hopefully, that is!
So glad you had a blast Jorma! We love Derek and Susan too! And have been a fan of Marcus for years! Great music made by all. Hourly you can hit the west coast before too long. We love you brother!
Hey Jorma, shame they don’t make a round of “probi-clock-tics” to get the roadclock back on schedule. Takes a while to get the lines back open after they been shut tight so long. Sounds like you’re pressuring up in a sensible fashion. Hope Blue Railroad Train stays in the mix ‘til ya’ll come through Texas. Peace.
Hey Captain,
I noticed you’ve add “Great Change” to your repertoire. What a cool tune! Can’t wait to hear it at some point. I’m glad you’re out playing and having fun. Peace, h.
