    Yeah Tom, it was a pleasant surprise to see. Especially of that quality. I meant “peek” instead of “peak”
    There must be a sneak peak somewhere up in the mountains…

    There was a whole lot of smiling and power last night in Red Bank.
    December 2021 and I’m in the same room with Hot Tuna? You know, it really doesn’t get any better than that.
    (And I don’t think I’ve ever heard a better “Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning” in the past half-century-plus. Not to mention that “Come Back Baby.”)
    Thanks, guys.

    @Arlen

    Nice post of some of the show…THanks Arlen.

    Well shot by video team.

    One question, Jorma, why not use a Les Paul or something w more power in a tune like I See The Light? Also, something about Jack’s playing at the very end brought a nice smile to your face…. Jack was making use of the power in that bass and amp, and his comfortable sneakers didn’t hurt either.

    https://www.guitarworld.com/features/the-beatles-get-back-gear For all the guitar geeks. I can imagine the Airplane post Volunteers sessions being a bit like the Beatles Get Back Sessions, although I would think Wally Heiders was more laid back than Twickenham

    @Jorma

    Well done on the strings..

    The tune has many layers and parts, from electric guitar treated with something (compression, distortion?) I guess a Les Paul, to acoustic guitar, to strings, to that Jorma voice, a bit nostalgic, reflective…Jack w that fat bassy and melodic line and tone thru the Versatone. I wonder if he still has it.

    “Time keeps moving on, like a river in the dawn”, like the one out back of your crib….

    This song was cool to listen to as a kid….a bit soothing amidst so much other crap in those days.

    Your lead, tone and style reminds me a bit of old Leslie West….just the tubes or effects its going thru I suppose, if it was tubes… I don’t know if you used Twins in recording studio back then or ever.

    Have a great weekend.

    Not anagram. Palindrome.

  12. Comment made on December 3, 2021 by carey georgas

    12022021. Today’s date is an anagram, and if you use digital deuces, also an ambigram, reading the same forward, backwards, and upside down. A rarity not often repeated. One of them things you don’t need to know, but gives a moment’s pause when you do.

    Does anybody know what kind of bass this is – that Jack played in the late ’70s right after the Flying V?

    @Paul Karp

    Soliloquy For 2…Lot of fuzz or distortion on Jack’s bass….. Is that an Emulator doing the strings?

    Just wanted to thank you Paul… I signed up for a Fur Peace long weekend a few years back and received an email from the staff, listing the tunes we were going to go over…

    Bar Room Crystal Ball was one of them… I had not heard the tune in years…. Anyway, I had to try to get ready for Jorma’s teaching and I bumped into your version on You Tube… Thanks…It helped get me ready. You have a good voice too.

    Arrived in Ohio, and it was a Double Dose weekend w Jorma and Deacon Jack… They changed the tune list. Never did Bar Room, but we worked on Embryonic… A year later I whipped out Bar Room at the Sunday student thing… Good times… Glad my Bro took me there on my first trip.

    Happy Hannakuh and Merry and Holy Christmas…. These are the good old days… Stay awake.

      Soliloquy For 2… No fuzz… That’s Jack’s Versatone Amp. As for strings… that’s the great arranger Tom Salisbury. Strings, French Horns and more. I would never use fake classical instruments. Of course arrangements like that cost a lot of money… that’s where a major label came in back in the day.

    I promise I’ll stop after this recommendation: for your new turntable, you MUST get the two River Flows LPs if you don’t have them yet.
    Besides the great music, you’ll rarely find such totally classy, beautiful albums, from covers to vinyl.

  18. Comment made on December 2, 2021 by Joey Hudoklin

    No. But my wife Amy & I recently bought a turntable, so old albums are getting some play, and we find record stores to rummage through. Thank you for the recommendation.

    @Joey Hudoklin
    Joey: Do you know her album “Live From Austin, Tx”? Was listening to the double LP the other day, and I think I saw it as a CD in a store recently. Highly recommended!
    I know I’m retro with my LPs and CDs, but buying albums is a way to support musicians. So everybody buy some for the holidays!

    Happy Hanukkah Yuri! Looking forward to the show in Port Chester. Hope you are enjoying the tour so far. 🙂 I think it is time to break out “soliloquy for 2″…. In D of course. LOL!

    Krapfen time, Jorma! Triumph is the summa of cyclic victories since the zero hour, what a winning parkour of vital so beautiful songs jotted down on the mighty Tuna’s set lists, sheer lymph for the good times of our flickering light. The best ‘bomboloni’ in town are displayed here in the windows of the Bel Paese, veiled of white like fresh snow. Peace be the journey.

    Correction: Name of theater is pronounced Muh-hey-we. I spent better part of a year in Berkshire County and wondered why greeting folks with Muh-How-Ee brought quizzical looks.

  24. Comment made on November 30, 2021 by BrendanC

    Big medicine at the Mahaiwe (pronounced Muh-hi-we). I don’t recall S.F. Bay Blues as an opening number. Brought my attention to the moment, which was a welcome reprieve from last week’s dropped-shoe “oh sh*t, what now” mutation news. Not groundhogs day in GB, though. Kudos to the sound engineer, in what appeared to me a challenging venue for that work. Don’t know how to describe Broken Highway and Talking bout You other than both were the best I’ve ever heard.

    Glancing at set list doesn’t give an idea of show to come, if you’re reading and curious about upcoming. But most here know that by now.
    Interesting to be reminded of effect Roads & Roads has on the women folk.
