Thanks Chappy I will look into that book.@Chappy
I enjoyed the show as always, especially the flashback to The Union. The Jack was a-flowing that night. Those were some good jams. Do you still have that red guitar? m
@Jorma
Thank you Jorma, for taking the time to clarify the lyrics to Great Divide. I’m the friend down in Melbourne that JR made reference to.
And, thank you, a thousand times thank you, for finding King Center. I hope to see you guys there again.
Carey, good book came out a year or so ago titled “Bitten by the Blues” (The Story of Alligator Records) by founder Bruce Iglauer. I found it to be an interesting and entertaining read. Highly recommend for any fan of blues music. Bruce was actually interviewed some weeks back on Joe Bonamassa’s FB interview series.
I am obsessed with the intro bass line Jack laid down to Great Divide Revisited in the quarantine series 😉 Jorma ” do that again ” !!!!!
Just read a good article in the Houston Chronicle about Alligator Records. It’s celebrating 50 years. Gonna have to check out a young cat named Christone “Kingfish” Ingram they signed up. Keepin’ the Blues alive!
See you in Ridgefield, CT in a couple of weeks. Hope it’s warmer than when you were there in October! Is that an inverted fork on your bike?
Jorma, is that an inverted fork on your bike? See you in Ridgefield, CT in a couple of weeks. Hope it’s warmer than when you were there in October!
That is indeed… an inverted fork!
@Jorma….Happy 4th to the FPR family…as a 50 year Tunaphile…my friend down in Melbourne and at the King Center show, and I in Jersey would hope you could clarify a lyric in Great Divide…
I say those mountains change from ‘crossed’to ‘lost’ and chorus songs change to ‘I never saved’.in verse 2
she says the 2 verses are identical. Who be right? thank you for all those nights & early mornings…
Here ya go!
Great Divide Revisited
By Jorma Kaukonen
Time goes by my window
Like shadows on the sun,
And it often seems to me that life’s like living on the run.
This time round, I’m waiting,
And cast time at his crest.
Orion’s flow tomorrow
Waiting for the rest .
And all those mountains I have crossed,
Are waiting at the door
Singing chorus songs that never stay
Being is a mystery, that I cannot replay.
Gone away is time’s untimely reign.
Thunder on the mountain
Shouts the falling rain,
The melting snow of winter,
As it joins the earth again.
The cycle of our spirit,
As it rises from the mire,
And fans the flame that leads us,
Around the twisted spire.
All those mountains I have crossed
Are waiting at the door
Singing chorus songs that never stay
Being is a mystery, not easy to reclaim.
Gone away is time’s untimely reign.
-2-
Time goes by my window
Like shadows on the sun,
And it often seems to me that life’s like livin’ on the run.
This time round I’m waiting,
And cast time at his crest.
Lines flow tomorrow
Waiting for the rest
All those mountains I have lost
Are waiting at the door
Singing chorus songs I never say
Being is a mystery, not easy to replay.
Gone away is time’s untimely reign.
That’s all folks…. 🙂
Dug QC 50A. Thank you.
Happy 4th to you Jorma! Thanks for the bonus episode last night. What a treat! Hopefully there is more to come!
Thank you thank you thank you thank you! 50A was incredible on a number of levels. And, having grown up in Pt. Pleasant WV, and having made MANY trips to Pomeroy way back when, it’s great to see the pix. You’re the best Jorma. Keep rocking
