Well, every day is a good day if you’re a canine member of the Kaukonen Family. That said, on this New Year morning we are certainly hoping for better one. Throughout the last year I have been studiously avoiding voicing my opinions about that state of things. I am an opinionated SOB so this has been tough for me, but I believe it is the right decision. Every time I have opened my my mouth and actually listened to what came out I realize I sound exactly like the whiners I decry. I guess I must still be human.
So be it.
As always, family as well as the music sustains me.Vanessa and I are constantly re-evaluating our professional models as reality changes around us. Of course we are hoping for the best as 2021 evolves, but I’m not betting the farm on anything yet.
More will be revealed I’m sure.
It is a rainy winter morning here in Meigs County. I keep telling myself that every day is a day closer to Spring but on a day like this, it is definitely not around the corner, but it will come. Speaking of things that will come, tomorrow will be our first concert in the Quarantine Concert this year and the 33rd in the cosmic scheme of things.
It’s certainly good to have a number of things to look forward to besides just getting up in the morning although that’s high on my list always!
To to walk the Little Guy again with a Happy New Year to all!
Stay well… until tomorrow…
“Living and dying with the choices I’ve made.” Thank you for another wonderful Quarantine show last night. I just want to give a shout out to the wonderful album by John Hurlbut and Jorma, The River Flows. Such wonderful songs and musicianship. These are heartfelt songs and Jorma’s leads punctuate the emotions that John sings about so well. Every time I play this album, its brung vivid pictures back from my own experiences. Thank you so much for a wonderful album. And that was a great “Choices” last night, and a phenomenal “Ain’t No Sunshine.” Go Izze!
Tonight was my first Jorma Kaukonen concert – ever. After a frustrating day, that experience was soothing and felt like a real privilege. Special guests and a brand new song: That’s my idea of good luck. I got a great deal out of the experience. On top of that, I heard Izze sing… with a voice that’s mature; moving… and mellow… Thank you so much, Jorma.
I suppose its all a matter of perspective. I posted a cartoon on twitter that showed two old guys on a bench grumbling about how 2020 sucked, then it showed some dogs in doggie heaven (or over the rainbow) saying how great 2020 was because their masters spent so much time with them. That said the wife was saying I have been a bit of a curmudgeon lately, maybe I need that “double dose” CBD. BTW as you assess the FPR business model, hope you keep the zoom classes. And to all a Happy New Year
Nice doggie. NYT published Rita Houston obit. I shed a tear.
Have a Happy and safe New Year. May 2021 bring you hugs, laughter, Love and Peace. Jimi & Carolyn
Peace✌🏻️❤️Love All Ways🔥🚲🌹🙏🏻🖖🏼
“And I always used to want to think if we could sing
Loudly enough
If we could sing strong enough
And if we could sing
Hopefully enough
Then all of this madness would disappear
And if we could sing
Long enough
If we could sing strong enough
And if we could sing true enough
It might carry us through next year”
-Paul Kantner

I’m a very suspicious person. Last year I wished everybody a happy new year and look what happened. So this year, from the bottom of my heart, #$%* you.
First time in my life I remember “good riddance” trumping “happy new year” going forward. As one opinionated SOB to another, all’s I can say is the year was a lesson in restraint. And humility. The world turns with or without my opinions. We do need to be able to have political discourse among ourselves. It’s been a vital part in the evolution of our Republic. It seems to have come to a point that we shout our opinions rather than share them. Gratitude is the quickest way for me to turn down the “I” and turn up the “we”. It is my hope that 2021 is a year of healing, that we move forward with a collective purpose of patience, understanding, and love. Namaste.
I forgot to mention the reason that I sat down at the keyboard.
Happy New Year to the Kaukonen family and the entire Fur Peace staff.
A big part of getting that “special” picture is having the ability to spot the shot as we go through our hurried lives. Vanessa certainly has that ability in spades . Yes I am happy to see the taillights of 2020 and I am tempted to say good riddance . It certainly was a tough one for us both collectively and individually and I am certain that 2021 will present with its own challenges. As brutal as it was at times if I sit down and make a list: I will find that there was plenty to be thankful for. It is through our trials by fire that we emerge stronger and optimistic about the future and without the spirit of gratitude , and I sometimes forget this principle , life would be difficult. Gratitude is the key.
Thank you for everything , thank you for having the courage to dream and to chase after that dream wherever it may take you .
Happy New Year to the entire Kaukonen family! Let’s rock 2021!
