Looking down from 400 feet…

Drone shot by Jorma Kaukonen

Well… thinking about posting the set list from #45 from Saturday night and with the number 45 in my head got to thinking about that wacky little 1994 flick, Love And A .45. Watty Watts in the movie per his granddaddy: “Watty, only two things you need in life to get by on this planet: Love and a 45.”

I think after I upload this I’ll see if I can find the movie streaming. Anyway…

I’ve loved all our shows in the Quarantine Concert Series, but to be able to play songs with our daughter Izze… is special. My pal, Myron Hart, added the rhythm guitar part and I was blown away by how his vocal harmonies blended with Izze’s voice. Good times!

Here’s a clip of the three of us… You know I love this!

Quarantine Concert Series #45

The Fur Peace Station

Darwin, Ohio

Saturday, April 16, 2021

  1. Dime For Beer
  2. Nobody Knows You When You’re Down & Out
  3. 99 Year Blues
  4. Keep Your Lamps Trimmed & Burning
  5. Ode To Billy Dean
  6. I Shall Be Released with John Hurlbut
  7. Angel Island with John Hurlbut
  8. Another Man Done Gone
  9. Let us Get Together Right Down Here
  10. Trial By Fire
  11. Valerie Featuring Izze Kaukonen & Myron Hart

On the one hand it’s hard for me to wrap my mind around the fact that we’ve been doing these shows for over a year, yet on the other hand it seems like a lifetime. To be able to make music with friends and family is more than a blessing.

Tomorrow Myron and I will be driving up to New York for four shows at the City Winery. That would be the 21st and the 22nd, two shows each day.

Wow! Leaving home for a gig in the Northeast! Good stuff. I’ll have my vaccination record with me, of course. I think I’l re-string my guitars to get a little in front of the game.

More will be revealed!

Off topic but we were wondering, Jorma, are you watching the Netflix show Bordertown, set in Finland?

The pic brought back great memories of FPR.

All the best on the road.

Hogan it is good to see you posting again . You know the adage ….” You can pick your nose but you can’t pick your family .” Hogan please let me know if anyone in your circle is unable to make the show cause I have been thinking about making a run up there but can’t find a ticket. Thanks Hogan and I am glad all is well .

I don’t know about Charlie Daniels Band lotion, but I made the run to W. Mass for the harder stuff. Monday morning at the Marijuana shop, and at that hour customers were like me; boomers buying salve for themselves or arthritic loved ones. I was nearly run off road on a return trip, by a desperate young man headed to same shop. I prayed for him, and gave thanks that awful obsession has been lifted from me.

Today- 4/20 is National Marijuana Day. New York state just legalized weed last month.
I never thought I’d see the day when weed was legal in my lifetime. I feel marijuana is a miracle drug with many, many beneficial attributes. There’s even a Marijuana Festival today in NYC with free joints. I am celebrating all day!

    45 was intense, Thank You.
Like half of a right angle with notes from all the degrees in between.

Safe&Fun travels on this day after the 78th anniversary of Albert Hoffman’s bicycle day.
Ever changing yet still and always NYC!
Have a blast, get some good food.

Saw Crip Camp last year. Wow! The power of love!

Meant to hit backspace to correct spelling.

What does one call an artist’s interpretation of another’s song beside “cover”?

  20. Comment made on April 19, 2021 by BrendanC

What to call song interpretations bride covers?
I did a search against ‘Crip Camp’ and saw a familiar face. Page is bookmarked so I can find film. I’ll probably recognize a camper or two from Blythedale Children’s Hosp in ValHalla, NY, where I did kitchen duty while in H.S. I was locked in alcoholic self pity then. Not the residents. They don’t play that game. I suppose the rooms are that way, to a degree.

Love Izze’s sneakers, but I don’t think the kids call them that any more,,lol
Looking forward to seeing you in Homer in a couple of weeks, really could use a live show.
    Take care and Safe travels.
