Hurricane Ian is fading into the distance for us up here in the north… not so for our friends in Florida. Life can change in the blink of an eye.. and not always for the better. All that being said, whatever our circumstances it’s one foot in front of the other in an effort to move forward.

John Hurlbut and I got home from Sanibel a couple of days before the storm hit and Myron and I got into my car and drove to New York City for Tuna’s guest spot with Tedeschi/Trucks at the Beacon.

The Beacon indeed…

You just do it, don’t you, Brian? I cleared around 50 pine trees up to about 30” off of two acres with a 20” Stihl by myself. If I could get it out to the road, FEMA would come by and haul it off. The destruction of your home sounds pretty disastrous, but it also sounds like you’re doing what you have to to stabilize the damage until the repairs can begin. My heart goes out to you, man. But take it from me, you’ll have some good stories to tell when all this gets in your rear view. You gonna make it.

I’ll leave my personal political feelings out of this because of Ian and respect for Jorma on his own site, however I would tend to agree with John O on the double standard involved with Russia…

As to the hurricane Carey pretty much described what I have been going through the last few days…Yesterday I finished 3 straight days of single-handed back breaking work on my house to try to prevent further damage…It took me over an hour just to unfold and size-up a FEMA tarp in order to cut a section out of it for the giant hole in the living room wall from the chimney being blown off…Taking the tall step ladder from the garage before Ian paid off and allowed me to tarp that hole from the inside…I had dragged a high ladder from the neighbors house but at 100 pounds I couldn’t raise it by myself…I took the remaining tarp and tacked it up in the remnants of the roof/attic also from the inside…It was intensely hot under that tarp as I tried to tack it in place and buttoned myself in to a tight pocket that I had to crawl out of but I got it done…It rained for the first time Sunday and rooms I thought had beaten the storm were raining water from the ceiling…I managed to get 3 more tarps and need to get back out there to stop those leaks even though there isn’t that much left up there to nail in to…The cops gave me a hard time but finally allowed me to ride on the mayor’s ferry back to the mainland…I was lucky to find a good bicycle in my neighbor’s junk pile…The tires on all the bikes that got hit by surge are all flat because water pressure exceeds air pressure and causes the valves to open underwater…But I found a neighbor with an auto valve pump and had a good bike that not only got me to the mayor’s ferry 5 miles away but also got me back to my car miles upriver…It is really crazy down here and those with the best resourcefulness can overcome the obstacles…I was exhausted when I got home…I drank a gallon of Gatorade and fluids while I was working and never had to pee…Dehydration is serious…On the mayor’s ferry I could see they are making incredible progress on rebuilding the Causeway and had gotten to within 15 yards of spanning the spoil island closest to Sanibel…The collapsed sections of bridge were also near to being filled with earth for a good roadbed…From what I saw they will have a passable roadbed open within a week…My next door neighbor had a Corvette and two expensive BMW motorcycles in his driveway that were trashed by surge…I saw new Teslas and other expensive cars destroyed…The mayor’s ferry was full of contractor workers in hard hats that filled up every seat and I was lucky to get a ride…All I need is access and a little luck and I will do the rest…

The truth is not coming from Biden.

Gettin’ a little self-righteous there, bud. I absolutely see the insanity of war and mass murder. I think our nation’s actions in Iraq were probably criminal, Afghanistan futile. But what I think about war has nothing to do with the global Realpolitik. To ignore that is to bury one’s head in the sand. Do you not see the logic of your notion that Russia “played by the rules”? It follows then that Hitler played by the rules when he rolled into Poland. Dude, you sound like a talking head from OAN. One other thing. Who, exactly, is telling the truth about anything?

In a nationalist fascist regime, open journalism is the first to go. This is where we defend our constitutional rights here and abroad, as it is now a global community, whether one wants to believe that, or not.

Neither one of you see the insanity of war and mass murder. When we do it i.e. Libya Afghanistan Syria Iraq where millions were killed, it’s alright. The msm doesn’t say boo but if it’s evil Russia who has played by all the rules, it’s different. Zelensky is a comedian who has stashed over $700MM in offshore accounts. He is being controlled just like we are by the elites who are evil. The msm is part of the problem. They’re not telling us the truth about anything. Don’t forget to get your latest monkeypox vaccine!

You’ve obviously never suffered through the aftermath of a hurricane. I’ll tell you what’s happening. They are recovering. Slowly, painfully, but moving forward. FEMA, Red Cross, Insurance companies, utility workers from all over the nation are down there working around the clock. People are tired, frustrated, but moving forward nonetheless, We are taking care of our own. Not one dollar going to Ukraine is a dollar denied to the people of Florida.

I wonder how SW Florida is doing? In the world today the narrative changes every day and we forget what happened just last week. Some parts of SW Florida are still without electricity water food and shelter! Why are we sending billions to Ukraine? Take care of our own first!

Now… I’m just a guitar player but before I traveled the world as an entertainer I traveled as a dependent with my father who was a State Department diplomat. I lived on the Indian Sub-Continent and the Far East for a number of years. I saw a couple of things which made sense to me even as a kid. This is not Europe in 1939, but it could be. As a world power we have a responsibility to be as righteous as politics allows. Putin as a really bad man who needs to be stopped. With the help of the free world, the Ukrainians are more than holding their own on the world stage. This is not the moment for archaic isolationism. As my father’s first cousin Jorma Raasi (who fought in the Winter War of ’39) said, ‘So many Russians… where will we bury them all?’ It’s a mean old world out there… this is not the moment to be sitting on our hands. By the bye… ditto what Carey said.

I’ve always had a special fondness for the old jingle, “It’s high in the middle and round on the ends, O-HI-O.” With big 15th innings congrats to the former Indians!!

Very cool obscure info about an Aeroplane Hollywood star, M, thanks. Wonder who their neighbors will be? That’ll be a fun unveiling weekend!

As is often said, more will be unveiled 😜

Is “Find it Here” the Ohio state motto for real? That sounds like an ad for a trade days fair! From The Heart is real, not marketing. That’s one thing cool about Texas. Our state motto is Friendship. A nice motto, and a lofty goal. Did you have to use the drone to laser in on the surgical strike?
