There will be a couple of shows to wrap up when this tour has ended and shows are all well and good. That’s what I do, but it is only part of who I am. As the father of a young daughter, as a man who has worked and lived in a productive partnership with an amazing woman for over three decades I am more than disappointed and repulsed by the Supreme Court’s most recent, nefarious and far reaching decision in overturning Roe v Wade. I remember the dark days before Roe v Wade and I see them returning. No one has a right to tell any human what to do with their own body.

As my father said on more than one occasion:

‘Why are there so many horse’s asses than there are horses?’

Dark days indeed…

“In 1800 no jurisdiction in the United States enacted any statutes whatsoever on the subject of abortion; most forms of abortion were not illegal and those American women who wished to practice abortion did so, Yet by 1900 virtually every jurisdiction in the United States had laws upon its books that … declared most abortions to be criminal offenses.”

    – James C. Mohr, Abortion in America: The Origins and Evolution of National Policy, (1978) p. vii

“At mid-century in the 1800s,” James Morone notes, “there was one abortion for every six live births. Abortions were routinely performed, and advertisements for abortion services in newspapers were common.”

    – James A. Morone, Hellfire Nation: The Politics of Sin in American History (2003), p. 250

It’s the end of the SCOTUS term, they decided this stuff weeks if not months ago. Amazing how states can be trusted one day to decide abortion rights for those within their borders, but New York can’t be allowed to issue gun restrictions for their gun-violence public health emergency. Is it states rights time or not? They dunno. m

Thats just what I was thinking today, What happened to separation of Church and State?

  6. Comment made on June 27, 2022 by mikie

Agreed, Jorma. Now we start to see the 21st Century version of the Underground Railroad, where those seeking abortions must travel to other states and hope to avoid detection by bounty hunters. Church and State have become closer to being One. What other country has that worked out well for? Vote, my friends, vote. m

On a lighter note, When I find myself at odds with stubborn my wife and daughter, who both happen to be born under the sign of Taurus, I respond by stating it could be worse, since I, being a Sagittarian am half cupid and half “horses ass”. That may help answer your dad’s question.

The whole thing is shameful. How dare they tell anyone what to do with their own bodies..More freedoms will be lost if donald hump gets in again..That would be awful…Its all about power, money and being prejudice..

I misspoke in my previous post. The state does not enforce any bar to abortion aid. The neighbor has cause to sue me in civil court. The person being assisted does not have to have any relationship or other connection to the plaintiff. Even more insidious. Neighbor vs. neighbor. The state’s hands stay clean. Here’s the kicker: plaintiff gets a $10,000 bounty from the state if the suit is successful. Sick.

Sitting here at ground zero amongst the Crazy States of America, I am chagrined beyond description. My beautiful, unique state has been overrun by lunatic zealots and I let my freak flag fly at risk of actual violence befalling me at the hands of my peers. Fuck ‘em, says I. If you don’t already know, it is legal for a neighbor to spy on me and turn me over to the authorities if I’m suspected of aiding a body in obtaining an abortion. The law is in effect pending review by the Supreme Court, and after what happened Friday, I suspect this beyond Orwellian law will stand. Think about that for a second. If my neighbor doesn’t like the political sign I put in my yard, all he has to do is Trump up some allegation and make my life hell. I’m tempted to run, but honor demands I stay and fight. William Travis didn’t die for nothing.

This country has become a complete embarrassment. It is being run by extremists and religious zealots who are now at the center of the Republican Party. Their so called leader doesn’t even subscribe to their ignorant fairy tale beliefs, he just panders to the crowd, in order to line his pockets and cling to power. Sadly, I’m watching some family and friends fall for this bizarre line of BS, thanks to “state run” television’s constant propaganda and spin. The last 7 years feels like an episode of the twilight zone. I’m sickened.

We in the Great White North are all shocked and astonished at the turn taken in the USA, the land of our neighbouring cousins, in the past 6 years or so. This decision punctuates it. We’ve never felt so foreign when travelling south. Although we don’t get a vote, here’s hoping something positive will emerge in November this year and in November 2024.

A couple of quotes from, in my opinion, two of the badded assed mo fo’s ever. #1 “I know who I can depend on, I know who to trust. I’m watchin’ the road. I’m studyin’ the dust. #2 “Which ever way your pleasure tends, if you plant ice, you’re gonna harvest wind.

Mobilize. Turn out. Fight back. Cast your whole vote. And as David Crosby has often said, “Stand and be counted.” Democracy and truth are under relentless attack right now. Millions have risked their lives to defend democracy. But the people who put those right-wing justices on the bench won’t even risk their jobs. They are not fit to hold public office.

For starters, the voting public could all register as “unafilliated”,ignore the primaries, cease all political donations and concentrate on the general elections. Tall order indeed. The money grubbers would go broke fishing for financial support, or better yet, not even enter that arena. Let them pay their way if they so choose. Keep them guessing, choose wisely and cross your fingers. I’ll leave some meat on the bone for further discussion.

The Supreme Court is most defiantly working against the majority, against democracy.
Abraham Lincoln said throwing out the founding fathers writings would put us all in a position of HOPING we are not next in line for persecution. This authoritarian stuff is serious business. Bad business. I surely hope good people get out and vote in numbers we haven’t seen, deliver a strong majority to both houses, and reclaim a voice for the true majority in this country. Meanwhile, my passport is updated.

Many people are about “freedom” to do whatever they like but want to prevent others from doing things that they don’t like. So they are free to refuse masks or vaccines, for example, but don’t want someone to be free to decide whether or not to have a child. And they are free to own whatever kind of weapons and ammo they want but want to stop a same-sex couple from getting married. And then we have a court that says that states should be able to decide whether or not to allow abortion clinics to operate in the state but states should not be able to decide how gun permits should work within the state. The hypocrisy of this country bothers me even more than the atrocious policies we’re seeing–most of which work against the interests of the majority of the people whether they understand it or not.

A wise woman once said: If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament.
Many people are all about “freedom” – except when it comes to women’s decisions about their bodies, and everyone’s choices about their sex lives.
As Clarence Thomas threatened in the decision, the next targets are contraception and same-sex relationships – not just same-sex marriage.
I wish he’d just stick to his pornography obsession and keep out of other people’s bedrooms.

Bizzaro world is descending upon us. Blatant lies are accepted as truth. The courts no longer protect rights, they remove them. More guns are supposed to bring peace. Locking school doors will protect children. Public health is used for public disinformation. Hopefully the kids will grow up and save us from this insanity.
