Morning frost on the Jeeps…

Yes it was frosty and damn cold this morning, but it is a week or so short of Winter so not much of a surprise. Back home now the last Electric Hot Tuna gigs are in the rear view mirror, but the music continues. This coming Saturday the 16th of December John Hurlbut and I will be playing a free hour set at Vanessa’s shop in Athens, The River Of Time Boutique I always enjoy making music with Johnny. He involves me in a song book landscape that I probably wouldn’t normally venture into as a player. I welcome the diversity that he brings to the table. It introduces me to different perspectives as an artist and always leaves a smile on my face! Stop by Washington St. in Athens right between the Donkey coffee shop and Salaam’s exotic Mediterranean delights!

Enjoying being home for the holidays. A rare occurrence for the Kaukonen family indeed. Being on the road is a totally regimented existence. Each day is mapped out by necessity. Here at home there is always necessary stuff to do, of course… but aside from that the options are almost endless. This is not a complaint, merely an observation.

Vanessa’s sister Ginger just stopped by with a new puppy… Joey a six week old shih tzu dachshund blend… a Shweeny. The big Mav and smaller Perseus are saying in their own way, ‘What’s this little thing doing in our house, and why are you paying attention to him?’

Good morning Joey

And so the day begins… heading out to see what the world has in store for me.

    Hi Jorma,

What time will you and John be playing? Hoping it won’t be the same time as OU’s graduation – fingers crossed!!

    Hi Jorma,
Speaking of the river of time, I was listening to the Airplane’s Woodstock set yesterday. I’d have to go back and look at the film, but from the audio it sounds like your guitar was on fire from the opening tune. Really something.
Apologies if you’ve gone over this before – but what did it feel like taking the stage with a few hundred thousand people out there? To my amateur ears, you guys sounded as consummately professional as ever, totally unfazed by the moment.

We were very sharp as a band then… touring and playing constantly. It’s a long time ago but since we went on 18+ hours late I thing we just wanted to make it happen. Not that it needs to be said, we were professional musicians and at the end of the day… a gig’s a gig. 🙂
