Wow, it’s i the 50’s. Screw it. Let’s ride!

Yeah, so I’ve had Pearl Lightning for three weeks or so and the weather just hasn’t allowed for a ride… until today. I suited up electric vest and all. It was warm enough so i didn’t have to turn it on, but better safe than sorry! I’ve been looking forward to my maiden voyage for… well, a while and I wasn’t going to let this rare bit of temperate weather go to waste.

First stop, the lake at Stroud’s Run

Much of the lake was still frozen, a remnant of the sub zero weather we had a week ago. A beautiful sight to see! This is a very powerful motorcycle so I was extra careful what with winter sand on the road and all. Nothing could dampen my spirits though on this day!

I headed out from Stroud’s Run and turned right on 690 till I hit Rt. 50 then back in and out of Athens and a circuitous route home.

It wasn’t a mega ride, but it was a ride and for me a great start to 2023. I remember a little interchange between my Dad and me as he was nearing the end of his life. He had already had a stroke and a number of TIA’s at the time of this conversation. ‘Dad,’ I said. ‘Of all the things you can no longer do, what do you miss the most.’ He thought for about ten seconds and the he said, ‘Tennis.’ It didn’t take a moment for my reply. ‘Yeah dad. That would be as if I couldn’t ride motorcycles anymore.’ ‘It’s nothing that that at all,’ he blurted out.

‘Yeah dad… that’s exactly what it would be like.’

A perfect end to a perfect day!

It’s official now that is has been named! “Pearl Lightning.” Congratulations! Maybe I’ll promise myself a new bike for my 82nd birthday!

Wow, I just checked the specs on the S. You said it’s powerful. I had a Sportster, it had nowhere near 121 HP.@Jorma

@Jorma Modification…is what makes a bike YOURS; and I’m not talking Bling here, but serious, well-researched performance up-grades. Most critically, Suspension. Modern bikes like your new H-D don’t need any “SCREAMIN’ EAGLE” nonsense, (it’s already near optimum out of the yard, and F-ing with the fueling etc. will cause imbalances)… But I’ve been a Wrench in multiple dealerships, and the one best thing any serious rider can do is LEAST match the bike’s spring rates, front & rear, to your weight and riding style. Both of my current scoots (the B12 and a sported Yamaha FJR1300) have good aftermarket shocks and re-worked fork innards. Magic.

Twilight winter rides require cat like reflexes .
There was no riding in KANTUCK on Christmas weekend with real temps at -8* before wind .
Warmed up to 65* yesterday .
That’s a nice new bike ,should get you down and back to Gallipolis or up to Athens in no time .
Looks perfectly suited to country roads .
We’re taking our two in for tuneups next week .
I sold a 1200 Sporty last fall ,the young man I sold it to found the shoulder of a 148# doe .
He’s lucky he’s walking ,bike is worth fixing .
Those “sandy “ ,gravel patches always tighten you up.
As for places to ride ,give me the roads less traveled .
I’d love to ride the Dakotas or Utah/Idaho.
    Maybe next year .
    The river flows .
    Happy New Year

Yep, a couple days Riding here in NY ‘burbs as well- low 50’s, a bit frigid, but yaz take what yaz can get. Trusty old Suzuki Bandit 1200, now w 165K on the clock (yes, I’ve rebuilt it)… Met you at the Turning Point in Piermont some years ago; you were stringing-up strings and I was stringing-up lighting. We talked Bikes. Congrats on the new ride- like ol’ Mama used to advise: “Ride it in Good Health!”

165 K on any motorcycle is awesome… that’s some serious riding, especially if you’re up there in the Tri-State. It’s been serious rain ans flooding for the last 24 and cold weather is coming in this weekend. That said… every day is a day closer to Spring.

Yep, that little exchange with your dad perfectly explains why you are a songwriter and he was not. No judgement, just observation.

Hi Jorma, did you trade in the Breakout or is that an additional bike? Saw you, Jack and Justin at the Paramount in Huntington, NY in December. Great way to wrap up 2022. Happy riding and have a great 2023. Keep the shiny side up!
