Tina Turner passed yesterday at 83. I have been a fan of hers since I first heard A Fool In Love in 1960. A gossamer shred of gauze is drawn across my eyes and softly in the veiled distance I can almost touch yesterday… almost. As I was leaving my soon to be ex wife (may she rest in peace) in 1984 with my old Chevy van loaded up with stuff I was taking with me, the sound track of that trip was ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It? My life was about to modulate along with that tune and in fact I was about to plunge into another abyss but that is another story for another time. In the closing weeks of 1984 Tina helped light the way.

Fast forwarding to the present, our daughter Izze will be graduating on Saturday the 27th of May, 2023. Mom will no longer be making school lunches and our frequent intersections with staff at Athens High School will now happen at Krogers or Kindred Market. We’re not exactly empty nesters… she’ll be working in town for the next couple of months so we’ll see her, well at least when laundry needs to be done.

This will be a major paradigm shift for all concerned but it is as it should be.

I am blessed to be a part of the story…

Tina Turner caught my attention similarly in how Janis caught my attention. Singing with a deep abandon and a super attractive woman really brought this 10 year old to pay attention there.

My life has taken a few twists in this year as I find myself unemployed, but reaching into what’s available to me as a 64 year old. Also, I actually have a man willing to pay me for passing on my freestyle frisbee skills to him. It’s a miracle after all these years.
Also decided (with the support of my wonderful wife Amy) to persue playing music to the best of my ability. I’ll never forget when at FPR in 2010 you said…”playing music professionally is like getting kicked in the nuts on a daily basis”. Well I’ve taken the dive, and you were right. My expectations are not so high however, and any success I achieve will be gravy.
Anyway Jorma, thank you thank you for all you’ve given to my life as an artist. You and Jack are my ever inspirations!💜😁

Thank you for your thoughts, Jorma. TT was indeed a unique talent. My memories of the summer of 1984 are not as bittersweet as yours, but hearing that song always brings me back to that time as well.

Proud Mary. I swear I ain’t drunk. It’s the aforementioned age and it’s relativity working on me.

Thank you for sharing your personal musings on time and its relativity. Helps ground me as I age my own self. “Big Wheel” just came on the jukebox at my little pool haunt as I write. Peace.
