By the time I write this, my old friend David Bromberg will have played his last show. I hope his time will continue to be fulfilling. Here in my world I just finished a trifecta of gigs, starting with The Jefferson in Charlottesville.

Yeah, we’ve been here a bunch of times and it’s always big fun. I saw The Blob in Three D when it came out when I was in high school. You can relive those halcyon days here in Phoenixville once a year at Blobfest.
Don’t miss it!
Anyway…

Safe travels home Jorma
Date_3/5/23__ 🙂 Jorma, just want to say ‘thanks’ for your comment about the Phoenixville Pa Theatre. Your dry wit was’nt lost on me. __ re: the Blob. What is there not to love? That opening song (Beware of the Bla_obb)..subtle, yet groovy. But this is what I picture__ A Teen Jorma, but with his 1981 Barbecue King_Playing the Pier in N.Y.C. ‘Slickness’. The Greased-Back, lean Rock-a-Billy Kiss-my-ass Jorma__Sitting in a movie theatre with 3-D glasses on..and muttering to a Girlfriend or two..this is so corny. Then when the Girlfriends shriek during the scary parts (The movie is a trip)..you just smirk thinking yea ‘sigh’ I’m getting some action later. Money in the bank. __ N.E. way, yea my comment. Cool movie, cool Jorma..But let’s just go there. It was Steve McQueen’s first movie (The Magnificent 7 McQueen..not the British Fashion Designer). Re: McQueen, what else comes to mind? obviously the Motorcycle escaping scenes from ‘The Great Escape’. You being a Biker efficianto..prob. hold those scenes in high regard. Cool movies, back when the world was Cool. It was cool ’cause it was made by a Generation that made it cool__Namely WWII Vets. McQueen being an ex-serviceman from the Navy. N.E.way..it’s all a generation that is few in number, what would you say, maybe 3,000 left around the Globe? But yea, a sci-fi movie from 59-60..who knows. But it was a wwII vet that saved the day. And remember Jorma..the movie ends with the U.S. Gov’t collecting the notorious frozen Blob..and depositing it somewhere north of Canada. Jorma, you ‘ol Cracks in the Finish dude (my little Finland rib..) Do you believe in Global Warming? Donde esta El Blob? Could it be…behind you? 😮
Delighted to see Kenny Kearney Band with you guys in July. Wonderful guitarist who played with Mr Balin on a few tours in early eighties. Born to be a winner, one of my favorites by Marty. Anyway around that time looking forward to getting on ferry next month Peace✌🏻️❤️Love All Ways🔥🚲🌹🙏🏻🖖🏼
Bromberg is so great! Everyone who knows him loves that guy. He’s already retired once but this time I think he means it. Of course, he’s just a young sprout of 77…
Keep on truckin’, Jorma!
@Jorma
I wised up thanks to you, and manned up to play the F chord and am just doing it in C.
Sounds MUCH better.
RIP Wayne Shorter
His music lives on.
I am so grateful that you stopped by our neck of the woods in little ol’ western ma! Spoke to so many who, like me, couldn’t miss a show in their own back yard. So cool!! I love the Stationary Fac – good sound, mellow, easy to get up an dance if you want to. Your tunes were lovely/beautiful! Thank you, and see you next time!!
Can you post a picture that’s not all blurry from the Charlottesville, VA Jefferson theater-it really would be nice to see a picture that wasn’t all blurry!!
I didn’t take that picture Kimberly… so what is there is what I got.
Jorma
Just heard “Get Your Yas Yas Out” by Blind Boy Fuller for the first time. Who’dve thunk it? Not me. Learn something new every day if you keep your eyes and ears open.
@Jorma
Thanks a million, Jorma. It’s incredibly gracious of you with your busy schedule – and while on tour! – to take the time to help me with that.
And IMHO, given your recommendation, I’d be an idiot not to go with the C Shape chords.
Thanks again.
Such a great show in my backyard in Easton thanks for making the jaunt across the bridge! Roughly my 45th show when checking tickets and doing the math. Love how you said you would channel your “inner Jack” for Great Divide Revisited! It’s all a blur but doesn’t Broken Hiway replace Too Many Years? Forward!
Saw Karen Jonas name on the marque under your’s in Easton. She’s a great singer-songwriter out of Fredericksburg, VA. She’s got several CDs out and plays a lot around MD, DC, and VA with her band. Check her out on YT. Writes her own stuff but will do an occasional cover…her live version of Zimmy’s “Meet Me in the Morning” is great. The FPR fans would love her.
Hey, Jorma, if you’re out there: I have boldly extended your use of pulverized Club Crackers (full fat, or course) to new life and new civilizations. Got a bag of reasonably priced cleaned calamari at the local market and decided to have a whack at the thing we all have had at pubs. Recipe called for flour and corn starch but I didn’t have corn starch so guess what I used? Now, I don’t know if the Club Crackers were a key factor in the success of this newbie attempt but it sure didn’t hurt.
Hi Jorma,
I should be able to figure this out but can’t quite get it: on the arrangement of “This Land” that you and John do on The River Flows Vol. 2, what chord(s) is it that you add in the refrain leading up to the D (am playing it in G) before the final “This land was made for you and” –
OK Ed… We do it in C. It makes more sense (IMHO) to use C Shape chords. If you want to do it in G… I would recommend C Capo 7 which would put it in G.The chord you’re looking for is the relative minor. Am for me… Em for you. Do check out the C shape though.
Looks like a great venue in Easton .
Bold setlist
Tidewater inn was a favorite ,lot of good waterfowling down there .
Crabs and oysters as well .
Ride on
Wonderful evening at the Colonial. First saw Tuna in 1977 in San Francisco. Seen Jorma 7 times since 2021 (solo, with Jack, with Hurl). Just keeps getting better. Great audience at this venue. Could hear a pin drop while those strings were being tickled. Jorma- each song was a gem. The music set a wonderful mood that words can’t describe. Keep on keeping on.
See you in Jim Thorpe in 2 months. Keep your lamps…………..
Jorma started the show by saying this is Sunday and went right into True Religion. But I believe he started the second set with Hesitation Blues. Wonderful show as was the Charleston show.
I saw you open this show with Hesitation Blues.
Great shpw for my birthday. I waited outside to say hey but
had to drive 3 hours home.
so what;s the real setlist lol?
I Stand corrected y’all… Hesitation it was!
Hey Capn!
Spectacular to see you, been a while. Damn this pandemic thing…. Haven’t commented here for a while either, but follow. Quick question. Didn’t you open w Hesitation Blues at the Colonial?
Cheers! Give Hurl a hug from me.
Tim from Philly
