The Rio Stage From The Projection Booth

The Rio Stage From The Projection Booth

Night before last we played Anthology in San Diego… caught a couple hours of sleep and hit the road at 0600. Eight some hours later, we arrived in Santa Cruz and began setting up at the Rio Theater. The Rio Theater is one of those great old theaters with lots of tradition as well as artifacts.

Now here' a chair!

This turned out to be a simply wonderful gig for folks who came to listen. What a blessing for everyone.

Now check out this radio… my grandparents had one just like it. Wish I had it… of course I wish my grandparents were still around too… hmmm…

What a cool gig. After the show, we drove to the San Francisco Airport… I got up at 0600 again so I could collect my son Zach who was returning to the tour. With Zach on board we headed straight for the Mifune Noodle House where I have been eating since 1978. It never disappoints me… never.

The end of the day is here and we are all tired. Tomorrow we will be at Sweetwater in Mill Valley. This is a first for us and of course we hope we get to hang with Bob Weir over the next couple of days.

Boy that bed looks good….. Zzzzzzzzzz

Had the great pleasure of attending the show last night at the Rio. Being a veteran of many shows, it was definitely a special night for me. You guys were definitely on fire from start to finish. The definite highlights for me were the Parchman Farm>Lamps jam, Red River Blues, I had never heard Goodbye to the Blues played acoustically and I think I Liked it even better than the Electric version. Anyway, thanks for a really fun evening. Everything was perfect.

Also, on another note that is funny that you mentioned Bob Weir, because I like to participate in tales from The Golden Road, which is the talk show on the Grateful Dead Channel on Sirrius. I had called in today to talk and was mentioned that had seen you guys at The Rio and we were talking about all the Great music in the bay area with Sweetwater. I asked what were the chances of Bob sitting in with Hot Tuna, and they said, oh Bob is probably busy getting ready for the Move Me Brightly Event, but you never know. Unfortunately I can’t attend the show, but just wanted to throw that in there.

Thanks again for a fun evening at the Rio.

You guys are GREAT! I was up front at the Rio. Great set, so glad to finally see and hear you guys in person. Only one problem: Now I have to get a silverburst JC Epiphone. And I might have to spring for an Alessandro amp and an Aguilar cab for it. All of which is completely Jack’s fault 😉

Re:Anthology Show. Thoroughly enjoyed the show last week! Great to see and hear all of you again. The only problem was Anthology booking a Led Zeppelin cover band (?!) and cutting you guys short. We were expecting a show similar to what you had been all throughout the tour. You were just getting warmed up when we had to vacate! It would be such a pleasure if you played a theater instead of a club where we have to be gimmicked into early arrival seating, $$ minimums and overpriced food and drink, as well as listening to the clanging/blenders from the bar, and distraction of servers throughout the evening. We just want to see and hear you guys!!
