Thank goodness...

Thank goodness...

The last time I was in San Francisco I was devastated to find that my favorite noodle joint in the Kintetsu Center had gone under. Yep… the Mifune was gone. This time I was pleased to find that it was back in another location. A little different, but better than nothing.

Noodles… and then… The Fillmore!

Beautiful poster for the boys...

Justin Guip flew in for this one and we got ready to play some music… standing up!

It's not my '67 Plexi... but it did just fine!

We’re always stoked to play… but this was our first electric gig for a while and we were really looking forward to it.

Jack and I have played the Fillmore since the stage was eighteen inches high… an honor then, and an honor now!

Then on a rainy Monday we drove up to Grass Valley and played the Center For The Arts. Jack and I have history up here in this part of California and it was great to be back… Another sold out show as was the Fillmore!

Looking forward to the Staten Island electric gig in April.
Thanks for squeezing in this gig, Jorma.
    Nice looking grand old theater.

The Saint George theater and the St.George neighborhood are named after a Staten Island developer, not the dragon slaying Saint

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._George,_Staten_Island

Fort Hill,[1][2] one of the hills overlooking the harbor, was the location on Duxbury’s Point or Ducksberry Point [3] fortified by the British during the American Revolutionary War. The area was primarily rural through the early 19th century.

The name was derived not from the dragon-slaying saint, but from George Law, a developer who acquired rights to the waterfront at bargain prices. According to island historians Charles Leng and William T. Davis, it was only after another prominent businessman, Erastus Wiman, promised to “canonize” him in the town’s name that Law agreed to relinquish the land rights for a ferry terminal.[1] In the late 1880s, Wiman operated the Staten Island Amusement Company in the neighborhood, offering public athletic events, an illuminated fountain, and pageants. The St. George Cricket Grounds was part of that complex, but only lasted a few years.

While we’re on the subject of that area, I ran across this newsclip in my Yahoo summary, I got such a hoot from it! Grace has never looked better than this pic of her flipping the bird at the bird cookers. As was said in The Day, Right On, Sister! m

I have a Marshall JCM 900 Dual Reverb. For something that isn’t a half century old, it sounds mighty sweet.

Jorma, you and Jack outdid yourselves at The Fillmore.
    What a show!
I gotta agree with Doug. The energy in that room was so high (Natural high).
The Beacon shows are always a real intense Tuna event, but this might have topped them all.
Your playing that night went through the roof!
I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
Always an inspiration like none other for me, since my first show at the closing of The Academy.
    Thank you Brother.
Safe travels to You, Jack, Myron, and all the crew.
    Peace

Great show last night in Grass Valley! I think we got the best dose of Rev. Gary Davis so far in this run. I was just heading to the facilities between songs when I heard you break into I’ll be alright, and just had to hold up for that one; can’t believe I almost missed it, but when you gotta go… Certainly my full bladder “helped” me to dance during the song. You mentioned that you and Jack started playing in 1958; will you do a 60th anniversary tour next year?? Anyway, safe travels on this run.

Had a fantastic weekend of music. After the Lobero show, my wife and I drove to San Rafael and caught Phil Lesh’s show with Stu Allen on Saturday which was really great. But the pinnacle of the trip, was seeing you guys rock the Fillmore. I have been to the Fillmore a few times for Hot Tuna shows and some other acts, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it quite so packed and such a high energy level from the crowd.

The only thing that topped the energy level from the crowd were Jack and yourself. Man you guys rocked the place from start to finish. The smiles and energy level that you carried, transferred out to every member of the crowd. I love when Jack said at the end of the show… “Now this is an audience”.

I always thought that the New York crowds at the Beacon were the most lively, but I’m gonna have to go out on a limb and say this show at the Fillmore definitely topped it. Thank you for such a fine weekend of music.

Hey, anybody here ever hear a cover of “Water Song”? I just heard one for the first time on Pandora, didn’t catch the musician’s name, but I think it had Brooks in it. It almost slipped by me, but the chords sounded too familiar. He didn’t play it anything like, or anywhere near as good as Jorma, but play it he did. I hope you got paid, Mr. Kaukonen.

“Been So Long” was a great way to start the set, as it seems like a while since you guys have played the Fillmore. Both sets just Rocked! Thanks for coming out to CA. A good time was had by all…
